‘Does he talk to you this way too, Abs? She used to love a filthy mouth,’ Sean taunts Callum further.
Red rage flushes Callum’s cheeks. A vein throbs furiously at his temple. ‘I’m going to give you three seconds to walk away from us right now, or I swear to God, I will not be responsible for my actions.’ Callum’s knuckles click. He clenches his fists, subconsciously preparing for a fight.
‘I’ll go when Abby asks me to leave. We were actually having a bit of a moment before you interrupted.’ Sean looks at me with a silent, defiant question in his eyes:Me or him? Now or never?
I look between the two men. One I thought I loved, the other who taught me to love myself again, following the aftermath of the first. It’s a no-brainer. I throw my arms around Callum’s waist. I pick Callum. It’ll always be Callum.
Sean reluctantly disappears into the distance, kicking a rock he passes as he leaves.
‘Twice, I’ve had to witness his grubby hands on you.’ Callum nuzzles into my hair. ‘Don’t let there be a third time…please.’
I tilt my head up to meet his gaze. His eyes look tenderly into mine. He’s nothing like the man-whore I pegged him for in the early days, not when it came to me, anyway. If anything, it was my behaviour that was off. I should have pushed Sean away quicker.
‘I’m sorry.’
Callum pushes his lips possessively onto mine, parting them gently with his tongue. Lust fuels me, I melt into his kiss, pressing myself against him, desperate to feel his body close to mine.
I break our kiss, remembering the reason for his absence. ‘Where’s your father?’
‘Brian’s staying for a few days until we can sort out a full-time carer.’ He brushes a stray strand of my hair from my face.
‘Thank you for coming.’ I’m touched at the extent he had gone to get back to me.
‘You might recall, I told you once before, you have no idea of the lengths I’d go to for you. You didn’t believe me at the time.’ Callum takes my hand and we stroll towards The Landmark together.
