“I did, it was pretty good for a chick flick.”
“Told you.” She stood and stretched before walking to the bathroom.
Before dinner, Madi asked if she could take a shower.Like I’d say no.
“Want me to help wash your hair?” I asked, wishing I could take the words back the instant I’d said them.
The mutinous look on her face wasn’t the only reason.
I’d be of little use with only one good hand, plus I’d be tenting my pants the entire time. She didn’t need that.
“I’m good. Thanks. When I’m done, I’ll help you change your dressing.”
I bit back the instinct to tell her Shane would help. He would, but Madi needed to feel useful, and helping me change the bandage was the best way to give her that.
“Thanks. You can use my shampoo, if you want.”
She laughed. “I brought mine.”
Chapter 55
Madi
Ireached for my shampoo, but hesitated.
Matt said I could use his.
What would it feel like to be surrounded by Matt’s scent?
I reached for Matt’s shampoo.
Don’t be that girl.
I pressed the lid to open it, brought it to my nose, and inhaled.
Don’t use his shampoo.
I held the bottle over my hand.
Are you really doing this?
I squeezed. Liquid filled my palm as Matt’s scent surrounded me.
Yup. I was that girl and I really did it.
As I washed my hair, I thought about Matt.
How he’d ruined me by taking me on fake dates that were leaps and bounds better than any real one I’d ever been on.
All the little things he did to help and support me, without making me feel needy or less than myself.
The way he set my body on fire every time he winked. Or grinned. Or whispered in my ear.
Hell, that man turned me on no matter what he was doing.
I squeezed more shampoo into my hand to lather my legs, careful to avoid direct contact with the bandages.
Would he be turned off by my scars?
