I wait for him to continue.

"I'm going to have to sneak into your house while you're sleeping and put it back in your wallet. Then you'll be likewhat the hell, where did this come fromand give it back again, and then I'd have to keep breaking into your place and putting it in there, and I mean, I don't sleep much as it is, so you wouldn't be fucking with my nighttime schedule but you'd probably end up feeling a way about it and it would be easier if you just held onto it. Don't you think?"

A valet worker opens my door before I get a chance to respond to him but it doesn't matter because I don't have words anyway.

He's persistent, and I can't quite figure out why.

So, I give in and shove the card and cash into the spot I had it tucked into my bag and latch onto the handle and hoist it out of the car.

Miller hops out and rushes around, shaking hands with the valet and whispering something into his ear.

"Yes, sir," the guy says.

Miller does that thing where he puts his palm on my back and I swear if it weren't for the fabric separating our skin, I'd probably pass out right here and now. I know he's off-limits and not interested, but it doesn't change the fact that I have a gigantic crush on him, and I have from the first moment I saw him.

"Do you remember that night, a very long time ago, when you went out with June at that club that Simon owns?" Miller guides me to the front of the restaurant and opens the door for me.

"I do," I confirm but don't admit that I was thinking about that moment as he was asking me about it.

"I was there on business. Meeting with Magnus, I think. Those parts of the night are a bit blurry for me. But you..." He takes a break from his story to approach the hostess stand.

The girl perks up at the sight of him and practically jumps out from behind it. "This way, sir," she says without hesitation.

Our bodies get closer as we navigate the busy restaurant and mine comes alive at his proximity.

He doesn't like you, Cora. You’re an idiot. This is a business meeting, not a date, dumbass. He's here to discuss design ideas, nothing more.

"I couldn't take my eyes off of you," he mutters to me from behind. "You were dancing and having fun, and I don't think I had ever seen anything more beautiful in my entire life."

My eyes dart to the side but I don't dare look at him. I move my feet forward and follow the hostess into a quieter and more private section.

She stops at a table and pulls out a chair. "Will this do, sir?"

Miller walks over to her and all but nudges her out of the way. "Yes. I've got this, thank you." He nods to the seat and pushes it in for me when I sit down.

What a fucking gentleman.

"Let me know if I can be of further assistance," the girl says before leaving the room.

Miller settles into the seat across from me, and I consider whether I'm going to be able to sit through a meal with him looking this fucking good.

"I probably shouldn't have said that." Miller puts his elbow on the table and thumbs his chin.

A sweet-faced waitress interrupts the tension. "Good evening, sir, it's a pleasure to have you back. I see you have a guest tonight. Would you like the chef to prepare something different than your usual?"

I hide yet another bout of shock at him being a regular at such a high-class place. I'm pretty sure we walked past George fucking Clooney on the way to our table.

"Perhaps, we need a minute to figure it out," he tells her.

"I'm good with whatever," I add to the conversation. If he eats here regularly, I can't imagine the food is bad, and at this point, I'm hungry enough to eat anything. Here's to hoping my appetite stays though...it's been a challenge having one lately with everything that's going on. The only decent meals I've had lately have been with Silver and Alec.

"Do you have any dietary restrictions or food allergies?" The waitress focuses on me, and it's then that I notice how bright green her eyes are.

"I don't," I tell her.

Miller meets my gaze. "Nothing with pine nuts."

I blink at him and wonder how the fuck he could have known that I have a pine nut allergy. It's mild and won't exactly kill me, but still, it's not common knowledge.
