“Yes!” Darren said, the word sounding almost pained.

Kavon sent his pants after his shirt and Darren was there, kissing him impatiently. Darren hooked a leg over Kavon’s hip and their bodies pressed together—skin against skin. Sweat and need and lust swirled around them. Kavon nipped Darren’s shoulder before he started kissing the side of his neck.

“Fuck. Do something or this is going to be over embarrassingly fast,” Darren gasped. He thrust his hips forward, pressing his hard cock into Kavon’s groin. The surge of raw, manic need slammed through Kavon. He damn near came.

Kavon stilled as he struggled to control his orgasm. Darren rested his forehead against Kavon’s shoulder and whispered, “Do it. Fuck me.” Darren ran his warm hands over Kavon’s chest and then distracted Kavon with a flurry of kisses across his neck and shoulder. While Kavon twisted under Darren’s touch, Darren wrapped his hand around both their cocks.

Kavon arched his back and opened his mouth to cry out, but he lost his voice.

Kavon groped blindly for their cocks . He didn’t have time for lube for prep. He needed to come, to mark Darren, to feel that intense fire consume him. Darren squeezed them together. With a cry, Darren thrust into him, and Kavon braced himself on the mattress to keep his weight off Darren. He let Darren set the brutal pace. Flesh slapped flesh, and the orgasm swallowed them both. Their bodies grew slick and their dicks slid against each other until Kavon’s cock slipped free of Darren’s grasp.

Kavon collapsed across Darren’s chest before shoving himself to one side. Still, their legs tangled and the smell of their musk surrounded them. The bond thrummed so loudly with contentment that it took several minutes for Kavon to notice the quieter thread of worry. He pried one eye open and studied Darren. “Are you okay?”

Darren propped himself up on one elbow. “I was about to ask you the same thing.”

Kavon frowned. He realized the worry was his own. He worried about Darren, about the war, about whether Angel would help them. He worried about his relationship with Coretta and whether he could give her space to be his co-lead. He worried about the choices he’d made and the ones he was still making. He wondered if Dave was right that he should sacrifice himself for the world. He wondered if Angel was right that he was blustering through the situation because he didn’t have any answers.

“Hey,” Darren said softly. He rested a hand on Kavon’s chest. “You’re awesome. We’re great. We will get through this.”

“Yeah, I guess no one is perfect,” Kavon said. He remembered Dave telling him he had to strive for perfection because someone would always want to kick him out of the FBI because of his Talent. And of course Dave had always told him to avoid other shamans so the FBI would respect him as an agent first. Dave had not been amused when Kavon had set up the first Talent unit, but that had been one of the only times Kavon had bucked Dave’s advice. Hell, Kavon’s actual father hadn’t spent as much time telling Kavon how to run his career.

“No one,” Darren agreed, “and no offense, if you were trying for perfect, you lost the crown the first time you yelled because someone moved your coffee cup. That was sort of petty.”

Kavon huffed.

“But I’m childish and insecure so I don’t want a perfect partner. He wouldn’t put up with my imperfections.” Darren placed a quick peck of a kiss on Kavon’s lips. “It’s still early. Do you want to catch up on this season of Magic in the Family?”

“Deal,” Kavon said. The two of them needed a night of curling up on the couch together.
