Her lips parted because she knew right then that he truly wanted her to like it.Her opinion mattered to him.
“I love it,” she whispered truthfully, pressing her lips against his cheek, then the sharp bridge of his nose, and the hard, granite line of his jaw. Then his neck, where she couldn’t resist giving a little nibble. She felt his purring begin before she heard it.
“Tev?” he murmured, his voice changing into something shedidrecognize.Desire, lust…it roughened his voice and she felt it scrape over her skin.
“Tev,” she repeated in his language, a teasing smile on her face.
He made a sound in his chest, his eyes delighted as they roamed her face.“Do you need your male right now, luxiva?”
Her male.Yes.
She spread her legs wider in answer and was already regretting her decision to wear the pants she’d made. She’d have to stand to unlace them when she wanted him rightthen.
Devix blew out a breath that ruffled her hair and he tilted his forehead down to touch hers, that heart melting gesture she loved so much. She wondered if it was the Luxirian version of a kiss or a hug, something reserved for lovers and partners.
“I wish to show you something first,” he told her, catching her by surprise.
“Now?” she asked, running her hands down his solid chest, her fingers brushing his own laces on his dark grey pants.
“Tev,” he said.“This time of night in the valley is beautiful. You will like it.”
“Okay,” she whispered, intrigued. She couldn’t help but tease, “Give me a kiss first though, since you’re making me wait.”
Devix grinned then, the first full smile he’d given her and it was just as devastating as she thought. He was relaxed on Rozun, she realized. The lines of his shoulders were not as tight, the line between his brow not as prominent. This place was his peace, his true home.
His lips brushed her own and she drew a shuddering breath between them, tasting him, feelinghim.
It was a kiss she never wanted to end…and she knew that it was just the beginning of something extraordinary.
SIXTEEN
When they finally managed to pull away from each other, Devix led her outside into the forest. Her legs and limbs were still trembling from that kiss. She’d never felt such crazy attraction and chemistry with another being, not even back on Earth. It was a consuming thing and instinctively, she knew she would never feel it with anyone else, ever again.
Just Devix.
Only Devix.
“Where are we going?” she asked, her voice coming out a little breathless. She needed to distract herself or else she’d tried to convince him to do all the naughty things he’d fantasized about, but against one of the creaking trees.
His nostrils flared. No doubt he could smell her arousal. And he was aroused himself, judging from his straightened horns and darkened eyes.
“To the edge of the valley,” he replied, keeping his arm around her waist, running his claws up and down her sides, which didn’t help her efforts to control her own body.
“And what’s there?”
The soil beneath them was soft with the blue moss, but up close to the trees, she saw that the trunks hadwhitemoss spread around their girth.
“It is where thegellravgather at night,” he replied. When he saw her confused expression, he elaborated with, “They are small, flying creatures that give off light.”
Like lightening bugs?she wondered to herself, knowing Devix wouldn’t know what they were if she asked. She’d just have to wait and see.
“They dance in the sky.I come to watch them often,” he said further and Cara smiled.“However, at this particular location, I have also built a shelter for protection.”Cara sobered when she realized what he was implying.“I want you to know where it is…as a precaution.”
“A safe house, you mean?” she questioned quietly. The threat against them must still be very real if Devix needed to show her where it was.
“Tev,” he said, squeezing her waist. He glanced down at her, easily navigating his way through the thick forest.Cara would need to practice to learn her way, but she had no doubt that she’d find it eventually on her own.“If I tell you to go there, you must, Cara.If you sense any danger, trust that instinct and run there.Tev?”
“Okay,” she said quietly.“I will.I promise.”
