“Oh my God!” Fee screams.
“Holy shit.” Enid moves the blanket full of popcorn off her lap but is considerate enough to keep the mess contained.
I dance around the living room. How is this suddenly my life? “Phillip Madden just asked me on a date!”
“And he talked to your dad!” Enid adds.
“Super swoon!” Fee falls back against the cushions and makes a heart over her chest with her hands.
“This is next-level,” Enid agrees.
“Send a reply!” Fee shouts.
I’m suddenly sweaty, and my hands are shaking. “Do I just type yes? No. I should say more than that. What should I say?” I move to the couch because my legs are unsteady.
“That you haven’t changed your mind, and you’d love to go on a date with him,” Enid suggests.
My palms are damp so my phone slips out of my hands.
Fee sits next to me and scoops it up. “Do you want me to type for you?”
“No, no. I can do this. I have to do this.” I take a deep breath. “I honestly never believed this would happen. This feels…huge.”
“That’s because it is.” Enid drops to the cushion next to me. “I think we should take a moment to appreciate how awesome you are.”
At my questioning look, she tips her head. “Pro hockey’s golden boy just asked you on a date, Tally. You’re some hot shit.”
“Damn right you are!” Fee puts her hand up for a high five.
I smack it, but my arms are rubbery. “This is like…serious business. All his attention will be on me.” I hop to my feet again and pace the living room, which isn’t easy because it’s a tight space. “I’ll be his sole focus.”
“That’s sort of the point, isn’t it?” Enid seems mildly confused.
“Yeah. That’s totally the point.” When it was just a fantasy, it was easy to imagine. “But I’m still in university, and he has all this life experience. What if I do something stupid? Or say something stupid? What if I’m boring?”What if I don’t live up to the hype in his head?
Fee holds up a hand. “Can we back this bus up a few stops?”
“The bus is already heading down the mountain, Fee. It’s too late to stop it.” Why am I panicking now, when everything I’ve ever wanted is a text message away?
“Do you really think Flip would put his career and his life on the line by askingyour dadfor permission to date you if he thought you were boring?”
“Well, no, but?—”
“But nothing. He’s clearly into you. He would not take that kind of risk, otherwise. Which honestly, is super fucking hot. Imagine a guy asking Roman if he could date me?” Fee arches a brow.
Enid’s green eyes widen. “That’s a pants-shittingly terrifying thought.”
“I’d be very scared to ask Roman to date you,” I agree.
“Right? And Roman isn’t half as scary as your dad,” Fee reasons.
“Okay, that’s true.” I’ve seen Roman pissed before, and I would not want to be on his bad side, but my dad is definitely scarier.
“So we can agree that there are zero chances Flip will find you boring on your date.”
“Stop waffling and text him back,” Fee orders.
Mac appears, carrying two takeout bags. He frowns when his eyes land on me. “Are you okay?”
