Benson slightly turned his head at the sound of Eden’s voice. “Not a problem. Turns out we had a last-minute cancellation this morning.” He didn’t know about that, but it always sounded good, and made new clients feel special. “If you don’t mind…”
He organized the stack of papers in his hand and finally spun around in his chair. He had every intention of rolling over to his desk while the rest continued to print.
Except the sight of his new client had him gobsmacked.
No. Fucking. Way.
That was Brim sitting in front of his desk. He would bet his entire life savings on it.I would know her anywhere now.Not just those captivating curves in her body-hugging sweater dress, but her wavy brown hair, her decadently soft skin…
Herscent. That was the same perfume that had nearly ruined Benson’s life last weekend.
She glanced at him as he remained trapped between the printer and the desk. Then, as if on cue, she swung her head in his direction again.
This time, her eyes widened to impossible proportions.
“Holy shit,” she whispered.
Benson had the wherewithal to pull himself over and take his place behind his desk. Brim – no,Eden’s– face followed him, her lips parting into a shockedOthat absolutely didnotremind Benson of things he had seen that mouth do only a few days ago.
“Well…” He didn’t know what else to say. “What are the odds?”
The terrified tension between them was mostly one-sided, but Benson had no idea what to say or do.This can’t be real. Those perfect cheeks. That beguiling hairline. Those beautiful eyes taking him in and – yes, definitely – replaying the things the two of them did together that weekend. For pay, no less.La Mariposa had facilitated their meeting, but Benson had paid a hefty sum to be there.
And Eden had been paid, which was probably why she was here…
“I had no idea!”
He was taken aback as Eden smacked a hand on his desk, terror turning to desperation for him to believe her. “Excuse me?” he said.
“I had no idea that you were here. That this was your firm.”
She was panting. Benson switched from trying to convinceherthat he didn’t knowherto reassuring her he had no reason to believe that this was anything but a strange coincidence.
“I…” Where had his words gone? Where was the man who always knew exactly what to say in the office? Had he really beenthatshaken by Liam’s name only ten minutes ago?
Oh. That was embarrassment he felt.
Benson cleared his throat. Then again. By then, he couldn’t look Eden in the eye. While she was pale, he was as red as the coat on her body.
“I can refer you to another advisor.” Usually, that meant one of his partners. But, in this case… “At another firm. I guarantee they’ll have no idea who you are.” They were not the types to fly down to the Caribbean for a weekend to fuck their lives away.
“That’s…” She folded the front of her jacket over her chest, as if the thought ofhimstaring at her breasts embarrassed her as much as it did him right now.Really, really fantastic breasts.Damnit. “That’s probably a good idea.”
He leaned his elbow against the desk, fingers pressing into his temple. “How did you hear about us?”
She swallowed. “Someone recommended your firm when I asked around for where to invest my…” That sigh she let out filled her entire body before she blew it from her mouth. “I didn’t even know you lived in the same city as me.”
“Likewise, I also had no idea.” The more he tried tonotlook at her, the more obvious it was that he probably couldn’t behold her without picturing her naked, in his bed, getting railed until they both couldn’t scream anymore.Oh, my God.Luckily, he had enough self-control not to get hard beneath his desk. “I should really get you that referral.”
“Yeah…” Eden covered her face now, before realizing she had brought in a purse and could shield herself that way. “Probably a good idea.”
“Sharon!” Benson thumbed the button on his intercom. “Please give Ms. Brimstone a referral to Ike & Sons on her way out.”
Eden whispered something across his desk.
“What?” he almost snapped.
“Hailstone.”
