“How did you know you were in love with old girl? Was it some love at first sight type of shit or did it happen gradually.” He had a serious expression on his face which was unlike Kasey.
“To be honest with you I met her and wanted to fuck. It wasn’t until I noticed our similarities that I knew I was in deep. As a matter of fact I hated her ass before I loved her.” I admitted it honestly.
“For real? What do you mean?”
“Don’t clown me about this shit, but she had my ass sitting up with the can’t eat can’t sleeps at my brother’s house one week. I was literally going through some deep shit and all I wanted was to forget her ass. See I believe me and Surah are so much alike that it just works for us. We got a bond that’s out of this fucking world and that shit alone be having a nigga ready to do the necessary to protect it.”
Kasey nodded. “I feel you a hundred percent with that. When you find that one you just know what’s up.”
“Funny thing is I swear I wasn’t looking for it. I wasn’t looking for shit serious, but it happened.”
“So, I’ma be the best man right?”
I cracked up laughing when that shit eased out of his lips.
“The bachelor party is gonna fucking lit. I’ma have you so fucked up that they’ll be tossing holy water down the aisle before you walk in the door.”
I was still laughing at his stupid ass. “Who said anything about marriage?”
“I did. I mean considering the way you just described everything, that is the next step right? I’ve been wanting to throw some shit like that for a minute and you’re about the only nigga I fuck with that done grew the fuck up. Both of my brothers still on their shit and I couldn’t do that for my sister’s nigga because the minute he grip a stripper I’m popping his ass.”
I didn’t know what to say to him, because I could tell he had really put some thought into this.
“No rush though, but just know when the time comes I got this.” He looked so damn excited about a bachelor’s party that didn’t even have a wedding to go to it. “Think abou?—"
“I got it. I know it was.”
I turned away from Kasey and allowed my eyes to land directly on Teddy. It was about fucking time, but why the fuck did he look like he was scared to go on?
“Who the fuck is it? Speak, nigga,” Kasey demanded.
“I kept missing the identity because it was right in front of me. The person who recently started hanging at the bar around the time the block got shot up is your cousin… Gunz.”
North
One minute I was in my office mulling over the fact that in less than a few months I’d have a baby girl then the next Namari was standing in front of me fuming. Just that fast the happiest and easiest of moments went to shit because niggas couldn’t leave well enough alone. I was already exhausted when we locked eyesand I saw the fire in my brother’s eyes. What was wrong now? Who had pissed him off which would ultimately result in me being pissed off as well.
I glanced from him to Kasey wondering which one of them would spill first, but they were both quiet.
“I’m waiting.” At this point somebody needed to tell me something because sitting in silence was doing nothing for me.
“Gunz.”
“Gunz what? I ain’t seen his ass in a minute. I think he got the hint.”
My brother shook his head. “Nah, he didn't. He moved on to other avenues. He’s been hanging with the niggas that hit the block up.”
That threw me for a loop, because I always knew Gunz was stupid, but I didn’t think he was that stupid. Everything in me wanted to step back in like I told Ommy I would if my brother needed help. It didn’t hit me until now that he didn’t need me there physically. He needed my permission to move like he wanted to. He needed my permission to run and get dirty like I had told not to when he first stepped in. When I first abandoned the streets I told my brother that he had the cleanest job because all he had to do was collect his money and steer the ship. During that lecture I told him that he had people to get dirty for him, that if he needed to get dirty he better have a good enough reason. This was a good enough reason but he was here to see if I thought so too.
“You heard that?” he asked me. I’d been too quiet and barricaded in my thoughts for him.
“Yeah, did you? What are you doing here?” One would think those were actual questions that prompted an answer or two, but not Namari. For Namari that was his green light to get as dirty as needed to handle this. I didn’t give a fuck that Gunz was blood. He went against blood which meant his blood among others would be spilled. “Oh and be the fuck careful.”
With that he was out of the same door he came into minutes earlier. I don’t know what he had up his sleeve but trusted that he could hold his own. He had been doing it thislong, so nothing in me was worried about his moves.
The ringing of my phone interrupted the rampage that my thoughts had been on. I glanced down at the screen and saw that it was Ommy.
“Hey bab?—”
