Thea snorted again, rolling her eyes. I could practically see a thought bubble above her head sayingSure, you’ll just watch a movie together.I shot her another look.
She just shrugged. “It’s an okay movie. Typical 80s. Not my favorite.”
“I bet you likedLabyrinth. OrGremlins. Ohhh, I bet you were intoThe Breakfast Club,” Sebbie said.
“Don’t forgetHeathers,” Thea added.
And then, in some sort of creepy show of unity, they both said, “Fuck me gently with a chainsaw,” then started laughing and giggling together.
Okay then. I was saved from having to answer by the sound of the front door opening. I’d realized that Dexter and Toby were nearby, but I hadn’t expected them to pop in.
Toby appeared first, and he had a surprised look on his face. “Oh! Sebbie! I didn’t know you were here!”
Dexter was right behind him, and he looked confused. “But I told you he was here.”
Toby gave Dexter a light elbow to the ribs, and then he looked at me and smiled. Then he looked at my hand on Sebbie’s shoulder. Then he looked at Sebbie, then he looked at my hand, then he looked at Sebbie again, all while sort of raising his eyebrows and making his eyes wide.
It was… odd.
Sebbie was still sort of giggling, and Toby’s look only made him giggle harder.
“For fuck’s sake,” Thea mumbled.
Toby cleared his throat expectantly. Sebbie was still giggling, Dexter looked just as confused as me, and Thea looked both mildly amused and mildly annoyed.
Toby cleared his throat again, then he looked at Dexter.
“Oh,” Dexter said, as if he suddenly realized he had lines. “My mate wants to know if you two had sex.”
“Oh, dear god, that isnotwhat I said!” Toby grumbled, elbowing Dexter again.
Sebbie was bent over in laughter, and Thea was trying her hardest not to laugh, but she wasn’t very successful.
“You said, ‘Oh my god, Sebbie’s been over there for hours? Do you think they had sex?’” Dexter quoted.
Thea lost it at that point, giggling along with Sebbie, and Tobytriedto look mad, but he was soon giggling along with them.
“You guys are about as subtle as bricks,” Thea said between gasping laughs.
Dexter and I just looked at each other, both of us shrugging. I had no problem if Sebbie wanted to tell his friend we’d had sex, but I certainly wasn’t going to volunteer the information. Silence seemed the only course of action.
Dexter must have agreed after he’d taken two of Toby’s elbows to the ribs, because he didn’t say anything else either.
I’m not sure how I would have corralled the giggling trio, but Crow sent me a warning from outside. It looked like we were about to have company.
I headed towards the front door. Dexter followed, and like a bunch of little ducklings, Thea, Sebbie, and Toby followed after us, still giving the occasional giggle. I opened the door and stepped outside, everyone following behind, and not a minute later the sheriff’s car was in sight, pulling in front of the house.
The sheriff looked pissed as hell, and my guess was that it had something to do with the fact that Jude was in the back of the car. He was grinning like a maniac, leaning forward and pressing his head to the cage that separated the front and back seat. From the position of his shoulders, I would guess that he was handcuffed.
I sighed.
“Looks like Jude finally got himself arrested,” Dexter said. “Not sure why the sheriff is bringing him here, though. Shouldn’t he take him to jail?”
Dexter’s lack of concern and bewilderment at the sheriff bringing him home set the trio off giggling again, and even I could admit the humor in the situation. Jude probably would have enjoyed a night in a jail cell, but if I was going to have to make the sheriff forget about whatever idiotic thing Jude had done, I was glad I’d only have to deal with a few hours of memories. Jude had, after all, only left the house when Sebbie arrived. Surely he couldn’t have gotten intothatmuch trouble.
The sheriff parked the car and got out, pulled open the back door, and grabbed Jude’s arm, pulling him out of the car. Jude made a kissy face at him.
Okay, I took that back. Jude could definitely have gotten into that much trouble in a few hours.
