At least, that’s what I thought she did until, in the distance, I hear the unmistakable click of heels against concrete.

Reese struts right into my office like she owns the place because, yeah... she does own the place. But even if she didn’t, it’s nice to see that confidence back in her stride.

Across from me, she sits on the edge of my desk, legs stretched out and crossed at the ankles.

I’ve very seldom afforded the opportunity to look at this woman the way I want, so I take the rare moment to do so.

Regardless that no one else is in the office today, Reese is still dressed to the nines. A tailored pencil skirt paints her hipsand stops around her knees. The silk shirt she’s wearing is unbuttoned at the top, opening slightly in the most teasing of ways. And her heels... they’re dark brown with a thin strap circling her ankle, and all I can think about is how I wouldn’t mind getting on my knees to unbuckle them with my teeth.

I’d fucking love to be on my knees for this woman.

“I thought you left by now,” I ask, not pulling my attention away from her body.

I take my time working my way back up. Following the long line of her legs over the curve of her tits, only to find a smirking grin waiting for me on her lips.

“I do need to get going. I just wanted to come by and say...” She hesitates. “Well, I guess I just wanted to ask. You know we need to stay away from each other tonight, right?”

“Yeah, Reese. I kind of figured with every person who has ever worked for this team coming here, I couldn’t exactly get away with dry humping you in the gym again.”

“Which is such a shame. That was by far my favorite workout I’ve ever had.”

Fuck, I like this woman.

I like this woman on a foolish level.

She’s honest with me. Funny with me.Herselfwith me.

“What are you planning to wear tonight?” I ask.

“A dress.”

“And what color is this dress?”

Amusement dances in her eyes. “Why are you asking?”

“I don’t know. Trying to mentally prepare myself, I suppose. Trying to give myself the best shot at controlling my future reaction when we’re surrounded by our coworkers later tonight. But I have a feeling that no matter which dress you choose, it’s going to make it awfully hard for me to stay away like you’re expecting me to.”

A blush warms her cheeks. “Don’t say stuff like that.”

“Why not?

“Because I like it too much.”

I likeyoutoo much.

“I...” She hesitates again. “I also wanted to come by and say thank you.”

My brows pinch. “For what?”

Reese exhales a sigh as if she’s got a whole list for me. “For that.” She nods toward the field. “For letting me stay with you the other night. For taking care of me all week. With the press too. It made everything feel a whole lot less isolating knowing I had you in my corner. So, thank you.”

I truly don’t think I’ll ever get over this sharp woman being soft with me.

“Of course. We’re on the same team, Reese.”

But we both know it’s more than that.

She pushes off the desk, crossing the few feet to the door before closing it.
