I couldn’t hear the other end of the conversation, but I was sure she was advising against what he said.
“You have my word. I won’t do anything that could take me away from my family, but I meant what I said the other day. You might as well tell Nubayd you quit because you won’t be stepping into another club with my baby in your belly. I don’t give a fuck about any of the shit you’re talkin’ bout. You don’t even need the money.
“Yeah, alright. We’ll revisit this conversation later. Get your stuff together because I’m about to have Logic drop me off at the crib, and then I’m coming to pick y’all up. I love you more,” he told her.
I sucked my teeth, trying to hold my anger inside. He had a lot of nerve barking out orders like he was running shit.
“When were you gonna tell me you were fuckin’ my little sister? You violated and sat in my face like it was nothing.”
East scratched the back of his head but remained quiet for a few more seconds.
“I can hear it in your tone that you’re upset, and I’m not gonna sit here and pretend the shit doesn’t look bad. I never planned for any of this to happen, bro. Lyric has always been like a sister to me, but after all the shit went down with y’all auntie, things shifted. We started off as friends, but the dynamic changed when she moved in with me. The more time we spent together, the more I realized my feelings for her were different.
“There are a lot of things you probably won’t understand, but I never meant to betray our brotherhood. Shit, I kept pushing her away at first, but I couldn’t deny my feelings any longer. I love Lyric and Symphonee. They mean everything to me, and you know I don’t play games. You don’t have to worry about me being on no fuck shit.”
In most cases, I would have been ready to beat a nigga’s ass, and there was still a part of me that wanted to fight him. The one thing that stopped me was our history. East was always a solid dude, and he never showed a single flaw. I could tell by the way Symphonee reacted last night that she loved him, and she deserved to have a father figure since her biological one was a fucking pervert.
I planned to let things die down, but I couldn’t say I was done with the situation with Nathan. He used my sister and took advantage of her innocence. There was no way he should have been able to go on with his life as if nothing happened. If Lyric couldn’t receive her justice the legal way, I would make sure she got it in the streets. I decided to keep those thoughts to myself, knowing my people wouldn’t agree with my decision.
“What the fuck?” Logic shouted.
I turned to see what he was talking about and noticed my mother and her crusty ass sister standing outside of Lyric’s house. I was grateful Lyric wasn’t there because it wouldn’t have been good for anyone.
“These bitches have lost their minds. What the fuck are they doing here?” East vented.
“I don’t know, but we’re getting ready to find out.” It looked like they had just finished knocking on the door and were leaning against a car waiting. My donor lost her mind if she thought for one second she was about to come out here and confront my sister about a damn thing.
We all got out of the car, and I said a prayer that I didn’t end up right back in jail. My momma was a conniving and calculated woman. I knew better than to trust her to be civil.
“Why the fuck are you on my property?” East roared. My momma jumped, while my aunt tried to pretend she wasn’t affected.
“The last time I checked, this was my daughter’s house,” my donor sassed.
“Well, it’s a good thing you don’t get paid to think. My name is on the fucking deed, and I pay all of the bills in this bitch. Now, I’ma ask you again, why the fuck are you at my house?”
“Where is Lyric?” Aunt Trina asked. Many years had passed since I last saw her, but she looked as if she had aged fifteen years instead of seven.
“What business do you have with her?” East pressed.
I stood back, watching the scene unfold.
“I don’t need to answer to you, mothafucka. We came to talk to my whore of a niece, and I’m not leaving until the bitch comes out and talks to me face to face.” Aunt Trina’s face was reddened, indicating she was upset. The situation was almost laughable because how could she be upset when she played a role in the bullshit?
“Well, today isn’t a good day for you because you won’t be talking to my sister. You and your raggedy ass sibling have a lot of nerve showing up to my sister’s house as if you’re about to check her about a damn thing. You must not know she has somehittas who don’t play about her. If you have an issue, you gon’ have to go through us,” I let them know.
“Keynauri, this has nothing to do with you. You always covered for Lyric no matter what she did, but she is a grown-ass woman. If she has enough nerve to lie in bed, she needs to be able to accept the accountability that comes with it. Your auntie told me you all jumped her man because Lyric was fuckin’ him. I don’t know what has gotten into you, but I didn’t raise y’all like this.”
Rage. Her words ignited a level of anger I never knew existed inside of me, and I found myself charging toward her. My intentions weren’t to put my hands on her, but to merely get close to her so she could hear my words loud and clear.
“Bitch, you didn’t raise a damn thing. You lived off our dad’s insurance money and his stash for years until you drank and smoked it all up. Then you found yourself in bed with every sorry ass nigga who would give you a second glance. I’m the one who hustled to make sure my sister and I had clean clothes and food to eat. I can only assume it’s the drugs that got you thinking you can throw your weight around, but let me make this clear. Fuck you and your dusty ass sister.
“Yeah, we beat that nigga’s ass for threatening my sister and taking advantage of a young girl, and you better hope I don’t run into him because it’s on sight every time I see him,” I warned.
“You’ve got your chest all poked out because you choose to listen to her and her lies. I lived with her for years, and you don’t know what she was doing. I constantly got on her about wearing tight clothes around my house, but she chose not to listen. Nathan never wanted her, but she kept throwing herself at him until he slipped up. Whatever story she is trying to feed you is a bunch of bullshit. She was fast, and it was only a matter of time before her seduction wore somebody down.
“I told your momma when she was a little girl to keep an eye on her, but she refused to listen to me until she saw it for herself. The only reason Tone died was because your sister pushed him too far. He was a good man and only tried to take care of my sister and y’all, but he grew weak. He lost his life because your sister wanted to tempt him and then play the vict—”
“Enough, Trina!” my mother shouted. I glared at her as I started piecing things together. When I got to the house that day, I saw Lyric knocked out and Tone with his pants down, but my anger took over before I could truly process what was going on.
