“Jeep? Oh, found it,”Apollo says, and I think I hear a quiet snort. Of course he’d like that. He and Easton could’ve been brothers in another life.
“Great, like he needs any more fucking ideas,” Thor grumbles. I lean into the middle between seats, looking over his big-ass shoulder.
“I don’t think heneedsideas. Pretty sure he’s got plenty of those already.”
“Yep.”
I offer Thor a‘see, I told you so’look in the rearview mirror.
Despite the light conversation, nervous energy flutters through my veins as we leave the Hayes Pack’s property. I send a silent prayer out to the universe. Please, let Beau be okay.
Please let him accept our help.
Chapter Six
DREAM
“Wow. This is…not what I was expecting,” I admit.
Where’s the luxury, and more importantly, where’s the security?I mean, it’s a gated community, but there’s no one here monitoring who enters. No guards stopping anyone and everyone from simply rolling in.
“I said unconventional.”
“You didn’t say it was small or in an unsecured neighborhood. The Hayes Pack has ten times the security and none of them are movie stars. I thought famous rich people had to live in certain places for their safety.”
My eyes bug out of my skull as I look at all the suburban neighborhood cookie-cutter houses.
Why would Beau live here?
“This place is not what it seems, Dream,” Thor says in a quiet tone. Like he doesn’t want anyone to overhear him. His unease makes me feel shifty.
Could really use a dose of your soothing Alpha scent right now, big guy… Maybe a little dominance to set me at ease.
“King Kong is correct,”Apollo adds, and I try to hold back the snort, but it slips out.“Be cautious of what you say. It’s good you haven’t noticed anything off. If you do, pretend you didn’t. You are just the oblivious, carefree party girl looking for a good time.”
“Right. Save a horse, ride a knot.”
“Please, no.” Thor grunts, and I smirk.
“Shh, I’m being oblivious and carefree, remember?”
“If you have to abandon Hawke?—”
“Hawthorne,” the grumbly Alpha in the front seat corrects.
“Hawkeye.”
“Awfully bratty for an Alpha.”
“Oooh, sassy Alphas. I like it.” I giggle as we pull into the driveway of Beau’s home.
“If you have to abandon the sassy asshole to save yourself, do not hesitate. In fact, I encourage you to use him as a meat shield or a sacrifice.”Apollo says it in a serious tone, but it makes me cackle anyway. I bet he means every word.
“He’s right.” Thor meets my eyes in the rearview mirror. “Leave me behind, save yourself, save Beau.”
I stare back for a long moment. I’m not laughing anymore. I want to say something, but if I argue, will they pull the plug? The idea of leaving him behind alone goes against every instinct I have, so I cross my fingers and nod innocently.
It’s not a lie if you cross your fingers.
