“A vision? What do you mean? Oh, here’s Ian…something’s wrong with Cody,” Colton said.

“Dylon, let me see,” demanded Ian.

“No, I have him,” Dylon said. “Colton, tell me what happened. Last I knew, Cody was taking the boys to their assignments.”

Colton explained what happened, how he’d teased Kieran. Then he told how Norman threatened to leave tomorrow. “Then Cody started to shake so badly, I called for Ian. Dylon, what’s wrong with my brother?”

Finally, it made sense to Dylon. Holding Cody tight, he continued to send love through their life thread while whispering in his mate’s ear. After a while, Cody’s shaking stopped and Dylon could see their life thread turn back to silver. Standing up with Cody in his arms, he said to Colton, “Would you please ask my mother towatch the twins today? And let Jackson know I want to speak to the boys in Kieran’s room in an hour, please.”

“Where are you taking Cody? If he’s sick, he needs to stay here,” Colton said.

“Don’t worry about your brother, I’ll take care of him,” Dylon said over his shoulder as he walked down the hall carrying Cody. He knew what his mate needed, and he was going to make sure Cody got it. When he reached their room, he kicked open the door, entered and pushed it closed before setting Cody down. Keeping his hands on his mate’s waist, he waited until Cody was steady before dropping his arms. The next step was up to his mate and he waited to see if Cody took it.

Staring down at his feet, Cody’s mind sought and found the place it needed. He walked over to the bed, removed his clothes and gracefully folded himself into the position that gave him calmness. Clearing his mind, Cody inhaled and exhaled slowly, his mind and body finally relaxing until the tension was gone. Then he waited as his mind was filled with how he could please his mate.

Dylon let out the breath he was holding. This was the first big test of their relationship and he was pleased Cody had called for him immediately and wasn’t seeking to return to the vision realm. It showed his mate trusted him to help him deal with pain. The fear of failing the task given to Cody by the Fates was the trigger point and Dylon had to address that first. As he walked over to Cody, Dylon knew he had more work to do to help his mate.

Colton found Lizzie and relayed Dylon’s request about Jake and Jessica. After hearing her promise to take care of the twins, he hurried off to find Jackson.

Finally locating his brother in Steel’s office, he knocked and waited before opening the door. Hearing a muffled invitation, he entered and found Jackson sitting on Steel’s lap while Steel was talking on the speakerphone to…ah yes, Slate. Taking a seat, he waited.

“I understand,” Steel said. “I’ll call Penn. We need a lawyer to come over and talk to the boys about what happened.”

“At the bare minimum,” Slate continued, “Penn has to obtain sworn statements from Kieran, Theodore and Norman. But that might not be enough. I was told they wanted either the three of them to show up at the High Council for a deposition or do a video deposition, so the Council’s lawyer can ask questions about what was done to them.”

“I’m not sure that’s a good idea right now,” Steel said. “They are just beginning to feel secure and to have to relive what happened might be a setback for them. Let’s start with the sworn statements and see if that will buy some time.”

“Okay. I’ll inform the High Council. Will you call Penn? I think the sooner we can give them the sworn statements, the more leverage I’ll have in making the Council’s attorney reach a compromise regarding the deposition demand,” said Slate.

“I’ll call him as soon as we hang up,” Steel said. “Any idea when you’ll be visiting?”

“Soon. Just a few more things here to wrap up and then I will be winging my way to meet Jackson and my nephew. By the way, did you break your phone?”

“No, of course not. We’re talking on it. Why do you ask?”

“Because, asshole, I haven’t received any pictures of my nephew’s wolf. Take some! I’m eager to see Daniel’s wolf.”

“Hey, did you ever read about a silver-furred wolf with silver eyes?” asked Steel.

“No, why? Is that what my nephew’s wolf looks like?”

“Yes, and Dad said he read about it but can’t remember when or where.”

“Now, you have to take some pictures for me. He must look amazing. Did you ask Mom if she knew what Dad was talking about?”

“Yeah, she didn’t know anything,” said Steel.

“Well, I’m sure Dad will remember eventually,” replied Slate.

“Probably. I’ll send some pictures. In the meantime, I’ll get Penn on the sworn statements. Talk to you later.”

“Thanks, bye.”

After ending the call, Steel looked at Colton. “What’s up?”
