Mina

“Itold you, Little Dove, all you had to do was tell the truth,” Quin taunts as he squats down closer to me. I’m lying on the ground. My body is curled and wrapped around itself.

“But…I…I did…” I stammer. My body is shaking from the pain.

Cuts are slashed across my chest and back. He got creative with my arms. Lines of acid burn down my arms. No matter what I told him, no matter how much I screamed the truth…He wouldn’t listen. He already had it in his mind that he wanted me dead, so nothing mattered.

“Poor, broken, Little Dove. If you had just done what Declan asked, none of this would have happened. Declan would still be alive. You would’ve still had your future…But now…” His voice trails off as the sound of an alarm goes off in the distance. Chad comes rushing into the room.

“Cash is here,” he says. Quin stands and runs to the door.

“Keep her in here. Don’t let her leave this room. Was anyone else with him?”

“A woman. Blonde. Tall and hot as fuck!”

“Fuck! Do not let her leave!” he shouts as he slams the door shut.

Chad kneels next to me and brushes the blood-soaked strands of hair off my face. He caresses my bruised skin under my eyes. I want to laugh at Quin’s panicky orders not to let me leave. I glance down at my body and the amount of blood streaked across the floor. I don’t think I can even stand, let alone walk out of this room.

“Damnit, Mina. Why couldn’t you just tell him the truth?” When I don’t acknowledge him, he grips me by my chin and pulls my face to his. “Hey! I’m talking to you!”

I spit at him. The blood that’s been pooling in my mouth sprays onto his face. He releases my chin and tosses me to the floor. I’m too weak to catch myself, and my head bounces off the concrete.

“You stupid bitch!” he stands and kicks me. His foot connects with my lower ribs. My stomach heaves causing me to throw up. My body starts to shake violently. I feel cold. Is that normal with blood loss?

I close my eyes. If this is it…God, please don’t let this be it. I need to see Myles one last time. Please…

I’m suddenly flipped from my side to my back. A pressure settles on my stomach. When I open my eyes, I see Chad straddling me. I try to scream, but I can’t. I can barely breathe with his weight pressing down onto my diaphragm and damaged ribs.

“You know, I was going to make you feel good. I would have taken real good care of you.”

His rough hands palm my breasts as he shifts lower on my body.

“Pl…Please…Don’t,” I can barely gasp out the words.

He laughs as his hands slide down to my hips.

“Please?” His fingers loop into the waistband of my thong. “Please?” he mocks again with a whinier tone.

The sound of him unbuckling his pants causes my brain to snap into focus.

“No!” I scream, but my voice cracks.

“There it is…That beautiful sound.”

“Stop!” I scream again. I claw at his arms and face.

“Good! Keep fighting! Come on, I didn’t break you yet.”

*Smack*

He backhands me as my nails rake across his face.

“I was hoping you’d still have some fight left in you.” His fingers wrap around my throat and lift my head off the floor. “I love it when they fight back.”

*Crack*

He slams my head down against the ground. The world around me sways and dims, like a single lightbulb flickering in a dark room. Each time it flickers, less and less is illuminated by the dying light.
