“An eye for an eye, Mr. Langston. You may not have been the one to kill Jocko, but I know for a fact that you and she killed Declan. I’ll be seeing you soon.” He climbs into the truck and slams the door.
“Sunshine…” I’m barely able to choke out as the truck reverses and drives away. His truck wasn’t even damaged because of the heavy-duty rancher grille guard.
I watch the taillights dimming as he gets further and further away. Sirens can be heard in the distance. Someone saw the crash, but it’s too late. He has her. I couldn’t save her.
When the cops and ambulances pull up, people are rushing everywhere. Another car pulls up, and Alexandria comes running out.
“Fuck! What happened?” she screams as two other people get out of the car and run towards me. Jaz and Cash. How the fuck are they all here?
“How did you…”
“Fabian called me. He was freaking out when your car's security sensors went off for an accident. I had him send me your last location. When I told Cash why I was leaving, he freaked because he said you and Mina left together.”
“Myles! Where’s Mina?!” Jaz screams as she looks overthe edge down to the river. She’s about to rush down the hill, but Cash grabs her and pulls her back.
“He took her,” my voice cracks with the reality of all that just happened.
“Who?” Alexandria asks.
“Who fucking took her, Myles?” Jaz screams as she drops to her knees next to me.
I look up at Cash, who seems confused and also hesitant. As if he knows what I’m about to say.
“Quin took her.”
CHAPTER 29
Mina
Having to watch Myles fade into the distance as we drove away shattered my heart. He tried to get up, but he couldn’t. He’s the only one who knows who has me now. I don’t understand why Quin is doing this. Nothing makes sense. We’ve been driving for almost two hours. From the direction we are going I think he’s taking me to Mexico. He hasn’t spoken a word to me. His fists are white knuckling the steering wheel and his gaze is fixed on the road ahead. This isn’t the same man from earlier this evening. The sweet one in the back of the limo.
“Where are we going?” I quietly ask. His knuckles crack as his grip tightens even more.
“Why are you speaking?” he seethes.
“Because I want to know where we’re…”
*Smack*
He backhands me, slicing my lip open on my tooth. Blood pools and drips down my chin as I hold my face. The pain is hot and radiating down the side of my neck.
“I told you…Don’t fucking speak until I tell you that you can speak. Stupid fucking bitch.” His gaze locks back on the road. His knuckle is bleeding from the force where it connected with my tooth.
“I don’t understand. What the hell…”
He raises his hand to strike me again. My body tenses, and I quickly turn toward the window. His hand finally lowers, and I begin to relax in my seat.
“You’ve cost me so much, Mina…You took so much from me,” he growls.
I don’t understand. Our paths have barely crossed until today. I had only ever seen Quin once before today when he stopped by to give Declan something.
He glances at me, then back to the road. I don’t dare speak again. My face and body are hurting enough from the car accident and him.
“I know what you fucking did…I want to know what happened that day.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about…”
“Don’t play dumb with me, you fucking whore. The day you killed my brother.”
