“Please…Just let me go,” I whimper.

“Not a chance, Mina!” He’s pissed. “I told you, you’re my girl. You won’t be leaving ever again.”

A wave of nausea hits me as he hisses those words. My throat burns, and I can feel the bile threatening to come up.

“Let her go and I’ll tell you everything!” Myles shouts.

“You think I’m stupid enough to fall for that? Once she’s gone, you won’t have any reason to tell me. No, Mina will stay here and keep us company. Won’t you, Little Dove?”

I can feel his hand run down my arm as the tension tightens on my wrists before the rope snaps free. My body slumps forward. I feel completely defeated. As I wrap my hands around my waist, my fingers brush against the handle of theknife.

Can I do this? Can I actually kill him?

“Mina? Look at me,” Myles begs. I look up at him, barely lifting my head as he tries to comfort me. “It’ll all be okay.”

“I know,” I say. Tears begin to burn my eyes again. I have to do this. It’s the only way I’ll ever be free.

“It’s almost amusing how you not only think you’re going to save her, but that you’ll even make it out alive.” Declan laughs as he kneels in front of me. His fingers dig into my bruised cheeks as he pulls me to him. He kisses me deeply, and I have to fight back the threat of vomit crawling up my throat.

He finally breaks the kiss, and I'm able to breathe again.

“Like I told you before, you’re mine. You’re my broken, Little Dove. There’s nowhere you could go that I wouldn’t find you.”

My lip curls as I feel his lips press to my forehead. He’s right, there isn’t anywhere in the world he wouldn’t find me. He’s shown his true colors now. He’s a psychopath, and he’ll never let me go.

“I will never be yours!”

He leans away from me, smirking as I lift my head. I smile at him as my fingers tighten around the blade's handle. I can do this!

As fast as I can, I bring my arm up and slash the knife across his throat. His eyes widen as his blood sprays everywhere. He falls back to the floor, gripping his neck as blood continues to pour out.

The knife drops, scattering across the floor as I fall to my knees. Declan convulses next to me as blood continues to seep from between his fingers. His mouthopens. He’s gasping as he tries to take in any air, but all he’s able to breathe in is blood.

“I told you I’d never be yours. I’m not your broken little dove anymore!”

His eyes roll into the back of his head as blood leaks from his lips. My body folds until my head touches the floor as I cry. I did it…I’m free…But at what cost?

“Mina…” Myles' voice can barely be heard over the pounding in my head and my cries.

I killed him. I took someone’s life.

I glance at the blood coating my hands. My whole body begins to shake as my breathing stutters.

“I need you to look at me, Sunshine.”

CHAPTER 14

Myles

Her eyes are bloodshot. Tears streak down her face, smudging the blood smears. She’s feeling the guilt of everything that just happened.

“Mina. I need you to stand up. You need to cut my ropes.”

She looks up at me…No, she’s looking past me. Her gaze is distant and unfocused. I need her to come back to me. I have to get her out of here before any more of his men show up.

“Sunshine…”

I can see the moment her eyes finally focus.
