My heart breaks, and my tears fall, landing on his face.

“I’m so sorry, Tony. I’m so fucking sorry.”

His eyes slowly close as he slumps onto my lap. His lips move, but no sound comes out. I can read his lips, though.

“I love you” are his final silent words as he rips the knife from his neck. Blood spurts, leaking onto my lap as his body falls to the floor. My lungs are gasping for air. I can’t breathe as I watch him take his final breath.

Light floods into the room as the door flies open, and Declan comes rushing inside. He glances between the dead bodies of both his men before his rage turns on me.

“What the fuck happened?” he asks as he runs up to me.

He wraps his hands around my neck and begins choking me. I can feel his thumbs pressing into my throat. The pressure is cutting off my air supply. He shakes me back and forth as he strangles me. My legs flail as I try to kick at him, but it’s no use. Darkness is beginning to fill my vision. My lungs burn as they desperately fight to take in even a single gasp of air.

“You stupid fucking bitch! What did you do? Why are my guys dead?” his voice hisses as he whips my head back and forth.

I’m fading fast. I can’t think straight. Everything feels fuzzy as the darkness finally takes over, plunging me into silence.

CHAPTER 12

Myles

“Mina!”

Declan finishes dragging her chair over, spinning her until she’s facing me. Her head is tilted back and her dark hair is cascading down over the back of the chair. Blood is smeared down the side of her face and covering her lap. There are darkening marks wrapping around her neck. Her chest is barely moving as if she is struggling to breathe.

Her leggings are soaked with blood. It’s dripping down her legs and onto the floor. Her light gray sneakers are now a harsh crimson. Whose blood is that? Why is there so much?

“What did you do to her?” I choke.

If I couldn’t see her chest rising, I would’ve thought she was dead. My heart breaks. This is all because of me. If I hadn’t come back to say my final goodbyes to the house and their graves, none of this would have happened. But then I never would have met her. I never would have felt my heart starting to heal.

Declan still hasn’t said anything. His pupils are dilated, and his breathing is labored as he paces around the room.

“Declan!” I shout. “What the fuck did you do?”

“She killed two of my best men!” he snaps back.

“What? How?”

I glance back at the amount of blood coating her. There’s no fucking way she could have killed someone if she were tied up.

“I don’t fucking know. One minute they’re keeping an eye on her, the next they’re both dead!” He walks back to the door and looks into the dimly lit room where I'm assuming their bodies are.

“Was she like this?”

“What?” He spins back to me.

“Was she tied up the whole time?” I ask.

“Yeah!”

“Then how the fuck could she have killed them?”

“I don’t know! One currently has a bullet in his chest. The other with a knife wound in his neck! Fuck!” he slams his fists onto the table.

“So, you fucking choked her out?” I scream. She still hasn’t moved. She’s been out for at least four minutes.

“She’s fine! She’ll wake up soon. She always does.” He scoffs.
