“Well, now.” He slowly lifted a brow. “That’s boring.”

“Fucking good. Keep it boring, motherfucker.” I leaned in his direction and stared into his sharp gaze, whispering too quietly for anyone else to hear, “If you’d like to keep your Fae damned cock, you’ll heed my warning.”

His violet eyes sparkled in the moonlight—if you looked closely enough. “Ah…not so boring then.” His smile was purely naughty in nature as he grinned. “I won’t touch. Promise.”

“Exactly so. Keep it that way, and you’ll keep your dick.” I held that gaze one moment longer before pulling away from him. Then I calmed myself before speaking to the entire group at large, “Let us do as my lovely soul mate has suggested. I believe there is still much to discuss this night.”

Love of a father:

I will do anything to protect my child.

Anything.

I’ll even give up my advantage.

Within the Shifter Kingdom, Javon crested the icy city of Trumbalay, with the gorgon king flanking us on his own Fae-gift. The frigid wind bit at my body, and no amount of warm layers would protect from it. I had my royal firepower on a low simmer to keep the worst of the chill at bay, but the snake beside me wasn’t that fortunate.

I chuckled softly under my breath, greatly amused by his shivering discomfort. The king from the desert lands was significantly out of his element. But I kept my attention on a swivel, searching for any Fae damned dragons ready to take us down.

“Where should we head first?” King Elon shouted over the biting wind. “Their lair or that eatery they favor?”

“It’s far too early for supper.” I pointed to the northwest. “Let us head toward their lair. We may catch them unawares.”

The gorgon king nodded in agreement, directing his Fae-gift with his knees in the correct direction. I followed his lead, allowing him in front of me while I watched our rear.

We both noticed the darkness in the sky to our right at precisely the same time—fucking Fae. This…was a dragon of darkness, its outline barely visible from the sky. From the ground, I imagined it merely looked like a gloomy dark cloud passing by.

And the bastard was getting closer.

“How do you want to handle this?” King Elon bellowed over his shoulder. “This is your shitshow to fix.”

I grunted and sighed quietly. Then I merely lifted my right arm high into the air…and waved…at the dragon, who was almost on us. “Hello there, dear dragon friend! We’ve come in peace. We wish to discuss an issue with your king.” Because this certainly was not the dragon king. My daughter had remarked on his “delicate” beauty—and this dragon most assuredly was not shimmering in the sky like a diamond. This was one of the King of Dragons’ henchmen. “We would greatly appreciate it…if you didn’t try to kill us right now. We wouldn’t want to harm you, after all.”

Even with the wind whipping my face, I still heard the jackass flying in front of me snort in amusement.

The dragon of darkness hovered directly next to us until two eyes like onyx appeared and glared at me.

“Well, you know what I mean.” I shrugged and pointed in the direction of their lair. “King Elon and I were headed to your humble abode. You’re more than welcome to follow us. We’re truly here for a dialogue with King Ula.Not a fight.”

The dragon…huffed.

And a shadow slithered from his massive jaws before disappearing as if it never were—a truthfully spine-chilling sight to behold. I didn’t particularly wish to find out what that shadow could do to someone if touched by its oddness.

“Was that a yes?” I hedged carefully, lifting a finger once again to their lair. “Would you like to escort us?”

Another shadow escaped its mouth.

But the dragon did turn and start flying in the right direction—and didn’t instantly unalive us.

“Well, now.” King Elon peered over his shoulder and stared into my emerald gaze. “We aren’t dead.”

“Yet. We aren’t deadyet.” I shook my head. “But let us see how fast he can really fly.”

The King of Gorgons grinned and urged his wary Fae-gift to fly after the dragon. “That is a splendid plan indeed, King Traevon.”

Bending down, I hovered over Javon’s loyal head and whispered, “Try to beat those bastards.” My grin turned evil as we outpaced the snake and pulled to a head with the dragon. I winked at onyx black eyes that squinted at me and shouted over the rushing wind, “Can you not go faster?”

There was more huffing of shadows.
