I’d never heard of this book before.
I flipped it back open to the page he’d marked.
The office door banged open.
I froze in place—my head down for reading.
How was I supposed to hide if people just barged in?
I might have to kill someone again. I sighed heavily.
“What the Fairy are you doing behind my king’s desk?” Bishop slammed the office door shut, and my shoulders sagged in relief that it was him. He prowled forward, his steps silent. “Answer me, Princess Trixie.”
I tilted my head up, and said casually, “I’m reading.”
His honey-brown, solid eyes narrowed. “Whatare you reading?”
“A book from King Athon’s desk.” I lifted one eyebrow.
“For fuck’s sake,” he hissed. Bishop leaned over the royal desk and snagged the tome from my lap. His aggravated expression cleared when he scanned the title, shock holding his features blank. He muttered under his breath, “Why in the Fae fuck was he reading this?”
I sat forward and brazenly placed my elbows on my dratted soul mate’s desk, asking curiously, “What is that tome, anyway?”
I really,reallywanted it back.
“A book that’s best left in the past.” Bishop still stared at it in his hands, swallowing hard—looking positively ill. “It was the previous king’s obsession.”
“Interesting.” I hummed quietly in thought.
Bishop snapped his attention to me, quickly understanding he may have said too much in his shaken state. His lips thinned, but he couldn’t take his words back. Those were mine now. He glared for a long moment before his regard lifted to my hair.
His brows smashed together. “Did you leave the office?”
I blinked and touched my wet hair.Shit.“Yes, I did. I was filthy, so I snuck out to take a shower in an empty room.”
Bishop growled quietly. “Are you trying to cause trouble?”
“Not at all. No one saw me.” I lowered my hand back to my lap and winked. “Just like no one saw me sneak into your capital city, Bishop.”
He scanned my face, anger tightening his shoulders. “Now, I’m going to stay in this room with you, Princess Trixie. How does that make you feel?”
Like a cranky bitch.
I merely lifted my nose and sniffed. “This is your kingdom. You can do as you wish here. I certainly do.”
Bishop shook his head and moved around the desk, hauling me out of his king’s seat by my arm—done with my smart mouth. “Go find something you’re allowed to read and a different chair to sit in. It’s going to be a long day with us stuck together.”
“You’re telling me,” I retorted, scowling up into his eyes. “Don’t ever touch me again, or I won’t keep my promise to King Athon. Iwillhurt you.”
Bishop’s lips twitched. “That’s the funniest thing I’ve heard all day, Your Highness.”
I flashed my fangs. “Whichbooks am I allowed to read?”
“Nothing about shifters.” He shrugged.
That was all there was in here.
He was a Fae fucking prick.
