Instead, I grabbed my shower things and headed for the co-ed bathroom. For being so strict about gender-matching roommates, they sure didn’t care about us sharing a bathing space.

Long counters with sinks filled the center of the room, while stalls that turned out to be toilets lined one wall. The other wallhad stalls of curtains instead of doors, leading to a bench before another curtain which held the shower.

There weren’t many students lingering in the bathroom, which gave me a much-needed moment to breathe.

My mom must be ecstatic about me being here, and anything that made my mom happy made my dads happy. I had to be careful how much I shared with her, or I’d have all seven of my dads blowing my cover within the week if some guy so much as looked too long at me.

Tate's face came to mind, and I pushed it away before that warm feeling could take hold again.

No, I definitely couldn’t be too giving with my information. There was too much at stake to blow this for me now.

Chapter six

Tate

Therewasabitof a skip in my step after the bookstore, making my way to Kyren’s room to tell him what I’d learned about our mysterious princess.

Jack. That’s what the girl said her name was. Of course, she wouldn’t have a generic female name. It only added to her appeal.

My appearance in the bookstore hadn’t been by accident. I’d already gotten all my books for the semester days ago, wanting to beat the rush.

No, after a knowing look with Kyren, I had followed Jack’s scent through the quad and lingered nearby while she went into the registration office. Several human servants had stopped to chat with me, giving me plenty of excuses if the princess happened to see me.

Kyren’s shadows didn’t give her quite as much space as I did. While he went back to his room, bits of his shadows slid intothe darkness beneath her feet, following her into the registration office and then back out again.

I loitered and pretended to be interested in whatever last year’s hookup was rambling on about, waiting for the least amount of time before it was too puppy doggish for me to follow after her.

When Iris’s human servant showed up, I counted my lucky stars. Princess was distracted enough that I was able to keep a few feet back without drawing her attention. Every step, I inhaled more of her intoxicating scent.

Once they were in the bookstore, I ducked behind a bookshelf and waited for my moment as I eavesdropped on their conversation. I’d have felt guilty, except this overwhelming need inside of me told me I needed to know her.

Then, as if by fate, her books fell. I swooped in like Prince Charming, saving the day.

Of course, I didn’t get the praise I expected from any other girl on campus. They’d have gushed at my mere presence. For a second, I almost thought she wasn’t interested in me at all.

Until she stared at me.

Her scent changed faintly to something spicy, and it kept everything in me to not growl low in my throat. Then, in the same breath as thanking me, she threatened to throat-punch me. She couldn’t be more perfect for us.

Without knocking, I opened Kyren’s door. It slammed back against the wall, not even jolting the vampire lounging across his bed with a book in hand.

I inhaled deeply. The scent of cloves and thunderstorms was masked by his arousal, making my own resurface just as easily.

“Are you watching our girl?” I growled low, shutting the door before prowling across the room.

Kyren glanced up from his book, his whiskey-colored eyes dark with desire as he blinked up at me beneath long darklashes. His ebony hair curled around his ears and slightly tousled over his pale face, just a shade darker than most vampires with his Latin heritage.

I crawled up the edge of his bed, larger than other dorm beds since he had a single room. The wine-colored sheets shifted beneath me with every move closer to him. I grabbed the book from his hand and jerked my arm to throw it.

Kyren’s hand caught my wrist. “You know better.”

Impatient to have him, I gently set the book on the nightstand before crawling between his open legs. My fingers made quick work of the buttons of his sapphire dress shirt.

“Did you see her?” I panted, pressing myself between his slack-clad legs, groaning. He was as hard as I was.

Kyren’s shadows wrapped around my throat, pulling my head back to just the point of pain. “What do you think?”

He leaned forward, his mouth a breath from mine. Not touching… yet. Kyren loved to tease me. Loved to make me work for it. And fuck if I didn’t love it too.
