Because this wasn’t a warning.
This was a kill attempt.

Marco
The call comes at 03:12.
That alone tells me everything.
“They failed,” my head of security says.
I close my eyes slowly.
“How badly?”
“One is dead. One escaped.”
My jaw tightens.
“Where?”
“Texas. Small town. The target was not alone.”
Of course she wasn’t.
She never is anymore.
“They moved early,” I say.
“Yes.”
I exhale once. Sharp. Controlled.
“Then we’re out of time,” I say. “Pull every name tied to the contractor. Every cousin, every shell company, every money trail. I want to know exactly how my mother paid for this.”
“And you, sir?”
“I’m already en route.”
I end the call and stare at my reflection in the dark window of the plane.
“Mother,” I murmur. “You should have listened to me.”
Because now…
I’m not racing to stop you.
I’m coming to end you.

We don’t let Laney see the body.
Wolf handles that.
