“Everything okay?” I asked, slightly nervous she would blow up at me.
“Did you know she’d be here?” She faced forward, not looking at me.
“No, I did not.”
“But you came here with her?” she asked still not looking at me. Her walls were up and she was cold as ice. It seemed the progress we’d made today had been damaged.
“Sì.” My hand caressed her shoulder, and I scooted closer to her.
“A lot? Like all the staff knows her and so do the regulars.”
“Sì.” This happened to be one of my favorite places. I should have known Cara would have been staking out the place every evening, waiting for me to show up.
“Okay.” She turned to face me and stared into my eyes. “Okay.”
“Okay,” I replied and leaned in to kiss her. She didn’t reject me, so I continued. I was falling under Giovanna’s spell and getting worked up. I wondered if I could persuade her to go out to the car for a quickie before our meal arrives.
A glass shattering to pieces startled us apart.
Gia jerked away to see what happened just as Aaron dove in front of us like a human shield. A plate flew at my head and hit me before I could get out of its path.
I grunted in pain and grabbed my head. Blood squirted onto the table and covered my hands. It felt like I’d been stabbed in the forehead.
“Oh my God! You’re bleeding!” Gia grabbed a cloth napkin and pressed it against my eyebrow. “What is happening?”
Aaron continued to shield us and turned to bark orders at the manager. There was blood on Aaron’s back, but I couldn’t tell if it was his or mine.
More dishes flew at us like grenades as if we were under attack on what should have been neutral territory. I couldn’t see who the enemy was, but I recognized their voice.
Cara cursed in Italian, revealing how I liked for her to suck my cock and take her in the ass. Each private detail she yelled was accompanied by a glass or plate.
“Get her out of here!” Aaron yelled. It was then that Dino ran inside. He’d been guarding the entrance, per his orders.
The commotion continued as Dino removed Cara from the restaurant. She’d always been hot tempered. But I was stunned. Never ever would I have expected this kind of outburst.
“I want to leave.” Gia nudged me to slide out of the booth.
“But I’m hungry.”
“Boss, it’s not safe,” Aaron said.
“Look at the table. Blood is everywhere. You might need stitches,” Gia said.
“I appreciate your concern but it’s not that bad. You watch. It will stop bleeding soon.”
“She’s pazza, Alessio. Crazy. Crazy.” Gia shook her head with a mortified expression. “And what about Aaron? He’s bleeding too.”
“I’m fine,” Aaron replied. “But we should leave.”
“Maybe we can get the food to go.” I’d be damned if I left without something. I’d probably never return after all this.
Gia peeked under the cloth at my right eyebrow. “There’s a big gash. We need to take you to the Pronto Soccorso.”
“No emergency room. I have a dottore on call.”
“Where? Living at the estate? I haven’t met any doctor?” She was clearly worked up and possibly on the verge of flipping outlike Cara. I felt bad about my ex ruining what had been a good day.
“No, he doesn’t live at the estate.”
