What the hell happened last night?
Unless… no. No, no, no.
I’m tense, slightly holding my breath as I grasp the light sheet in my hand before I start lifting.
My pyjama shorts meet my eye, before I release my breath, shutting my eyes to thank the heavens that nothing happened. I don’t know what I would have done if I’d actually gone there with the Levi Carter.
A shudder runs through me at the thought. I mean… yuck.
My eyes shift back to his arm wrapped around my waist. I need to get out, away from his warm and unfortunately comfortable body.
I wrap my hand around his forearm, keeping my grip nice and soft so as to not wake him, before lightly pulling up, trying to pull his arm away. Only, that doesn’t work. Instead, he just wraps his arm tighter around me.
You’ve got to be fucking kidding me. Who’d have known that Levi Carter likes to cuddle? And is that… something hard pressing into my back? No. Absolutely not, that’s it.
When I grab his arm this time, it’s forceful. I’m careful not to jostle his injured shoulder too much when I firmly remove his touch from my body.
Levi jolts behind me, startling awake. I sense his confusion, so I look behind me to give him a sarcastic smile as recognition dawns on his face. His nose scrunches as he fights his way out of the sheets we’re tangled in. He rips and claws at the thin layer of fabric before he’s finally freed and bolts out of the bed into standing.
“What the fuck, Scarlett?” He seethes, “I knew you couldn’t help yourself.”
Oh, he did not just go there.
I scoff, before saying, “Please, you’re the one who was practically grinding his erection into my back. Probably because you can’t get laid.”
His eyes widen, jaw agape, looking like a fish out of water as he tries to find the words to respond.
I can’t be bothered to wait around for him.
I sigh loudly, leaning over to pick up my phone to check the time. Nine o’clock. Man, we slept for a while.
I turn to look at Levi who is still rendered speechless.
“So, have you been contacted about the car or what?”
He looks confused for a second before coming to.
“Uh… um, I’m not sure yet,” he sputters out.
I fix him with a long stare, waiting for him to elaborate. Which, of course, he doesn’t.
“We need to get onto it if we want to make it to the lake house today.” I glance at the window before refocusing on Levi. “And thank God it’s stopped raining. Did you ever check in with Warren either? If not, we probably should. He’ll want to stay in the know.”
“Oh, well… sure, I guess. I’ll call the tow truck guy before Coach,” he mumbles as he grabs his phone from his bag. He looks back before continuing toward the door to step out into the hall.
…
An hour and a half later, we are finally in the car again on our way to the lake house, deciding to forgo Leavenworth town.
For now, at least.
It’s beautiful outside, I’d say about 25 degrees Celsius. Perfect.
My head rests back against my seat, and I chance a quick glance toward Levi. Dressed in black shorts and a white T-shirt, he is certainly a sight for sore eyes.
Breaking the silence, I ask, “What do you want for dinner when we get to the house?”
He tilts his head to look at me, “Not sure. You got anything in mind?”
