“Thank you for tonight, Levi. I really like spending time with your friends.” She smiles, removing her seatbelt.

“They love having you around, Scar. And so do I.”

She nods, leaning over the centre console, pressing a gentle kiss to my cheek and opening her door.

“Text me when you get in, okay?”

“Okay.”

I watch her walk away, her hips swaying in that hypnotising way that sends all my blood rushing south. I lean back in my seat, waiting for her text so I can finally head home and deal with this problem.

CHAPTER FIFTY

SCARLETT

The stairway is quiet as I make my way up to my apartment. Digging through my purse for my keys, I glance up, the sight making me freeze.

My ex-boyfriend, William, is standing outside my door.

“What are you doing here?” I ask, furrowing my brows.

He digs his hands into his pockets, shrugging his shoulders. “I thought we could talk.”

“Absolutely not. You need to leave.” I attempt to brush past him to get to my apartment door, but he doesn’t let me get by.

“I’m not leaving until we talk, Scarlett. I flew here from Australia for you.”

“I don’t have anything I want to say to you.”

I grab my phone from my bag, pulling up Levi’s contact.

Me

Can you please come upstairs?

His response is immediate.

Lev

What’s wrong?

Me

My ex is here, and he won’t leave.

“Would you stop being like that?” He snaps at me, getting in my face.

My heart starts pounding as I move backwards to create some space between us. “Get away from me, Will.”

“For God's sake, Scarlett. Just give me a chance.” He wraps his arm around my wrist, yanking me toward him.

I try to pull away, but he won’t let go. “Stop. Let go of me.”

“Not until we talk.”

“She told you to let go of her. And I suggest you do exactly that.” I hear Levi growl from behind us, Will letting me go as Levi strides toward us, pulling me into him in a protective stance.

Will puts his hands up in surrender. “Look, man. I just want to talk to her then I’ll go.”
