His breathing grew uneven, shallow gasps spilling from his lips.

Seconds later, he painted my chest and stomach, coating me entirely with his cum.

He was the only one I trusted not to hurt me.

My heart, at least.

I blink a few times,scanning the room.

It’s empty.

This is the worst part of playing the victim. I have to absorb whatever version of hell gets thrown at me, all to convince Finnic that I’m nothing more than a helpless girl who needs saving.

And I hate to admit it, but I do feel a little helpless.

Not because I’m weak.

But because I hate the idea of drowning or suffocating.

It’s one of the few fears I carried with me out of childhood.

Dante knows that.

He’s getting a fucking earful when this is over.

I specifically agreed to bruising and cutting me up.

Now, I will most likely end up with pneumonia because of him.

I didn’t agree to this.

I don’t know what he’s trying to pull here.

I’m the one in control.

He only thinks he has power because I allow him to.

I’m the Grandmaster of this plan.

They’re just pieces on my board.

I standover the real Chloe Armani as she sits restrained to a metal seat. Her resemblance to Everleigh is uncanny. Same bone structure, same shape of the mouth. Different eyes, though. Her eyes are a deep shade of blue, resembling a brighter night sky, whereas Everleigh’s are forest green.

She watches me from beneath her lashes, jaw tight and shoulders squared like she is bracing for another hit. “I’m telling you-”

I interrupt her. “You keep telling me you’ve admitted everything.” I roll my neck around, trying to crack it or relax the tension in it. “But your father hasn’t fessed up where itis. Which means you’re either very blind to your surroundings or you’re holding something in that beautiful brain of yours that actually matters.”

Her lips press together.

I sigh as if I am bored, and then I hit her again. Not hard enough to knock her out, but I make sure that it hurts.

My knuckles catch her cheekbone with a dull sound that echoes in the metal room. Her head snaps to the side, the chair rattling beneath her as she sucks in a breath that turns into a broken noise before she can stop it.

I crouch immediately, gripping her chin and forcing her to look at me.
