“Excellent. Danger is my middle name,” Cambridge said.

“No, it’s not. Harold is,” Warwick added.

“Anyway,” Mr. Huntington said. “How can we help?”

“The man whose house you invaded the other day, Detective Fletcher? He is in trouble, and we believe hurt inside the Baddon Boys’ headquarters,” Ellen explained.

“Is he now,” Dev said. “Well then, shall we get him back?”

They moved down the street with the Sinclair brothers and Mr. Huntington, and Ellen felt a great deal better having their support.

“Are you well, Ellen?” Dev asked. He walked at her side.

“I am. We, Leo and I, got set upon.”

“We believe they were Baddon Boys,” Uncle Bram said.

“A cowardly action to attack anyone but a woman even more so,” Mr. Huntington said. “My wife will have something to help you heal completely.”

Ellen knew Essie was a healer, as her twin sisters often talked about her.

“Thank you.”

“There. See that brick building? That is their headquarters,” Uncle Bram said.

Ellen looked at it and felt Gray. He was close.

“Aunt Tilda is dancing in my head, which tells me he’s there,” Alex said.

Dev walked across the road with Warwick and around the side of the building. When he returned, he said, “He’s in there and alive. Down on the lower level of the building at the rear.”

Ellen felt almost light-headed with relief. She had always known there was something special about the Sinclair and Raven families, but like her own gifts, she’d never asked why.

“How did you—”

“Like us, it’s best not to ask,” Uncle Bram interrupted Ramsey.

“We need some reason to get them outside. Getting in there would be near-impossible,” Warwick said. “There are at least twenty-five men inside.”

“We need a distraction,” Ramsey said. She saw the questions he was holding back.

“I suggest a drunken fight,” Mungo, who had been quiet until now, spoke. “Make it loud and then we could throw bottles at those.” He pointed to the windows immediately beyond the wall behind which housed the Baddon Boys’ headquarters.

“That’s worked for us before,” Cambridge said. “We’ll draw them out, and you get them with Warwick and Dev.”

It sounded risky to Ellen, but what other option was there?

“Wait. Those men gathered around that fire we passed about ten minutes ago. I’m sure we could induce them to join us,” Cambridge said.

Mungo grunted his agreement, and Cambridge took off at a run with Alex and Ramsey.

“Ellen?”

“Yes, Dev.”

“Do you love that man in there?” He pointed to the building.

“I do.”
