“I believe when he sleeps, but I have heard he keeps food on his nightstand,” Dev said.

The butler left after James told him they would pour their own tea. Cam took a biscuit and settled on the edge of the desk beside the tray.

“As my waistline does not expand like the rest of you, I can eat as much as I like.”

“It’s my hope that one day soon that changes,” Harry said, reaching for a muffin.

“He has purchased another newspaper just so he can keep stocking his pantry,” Wolf added.

“You were there,” Zach said, looking from Warwick to Dev and the others. “All of you were in the Duck and Goose in disguise.”

“Clearly not a good enough disguise,” Dev drawled.

Zach waved his words away. “We can pick one a mile away, as we use them constantly.”

“Zach.” Gabe sighed.

“I’ve always wondered about you Devilles,” Wolf said. “You disappear and reappear constantly. Then there is that matter Warwick discussed with us.”

“What matter?” Zach shot Warwick a look before returning to Wolf.

“When Lady Raine asked him to investigate something for her. Then what he overheard at the Duchess of Yardley’s when he delivered the information to her.”

The Devilles looked at each other.

“My brother has excellent hearing,” Dev said.

“This I know, as I can get nothing by him,” Zach muttered.

“Which if we are being honest, is not hard,” Warwick teased his friend.

“Lady Samantha was distressedwhen she sat in that booth. Distressed and desperate for me to leave when I confronted her,” Zach said, undeterred by the insult. “Why?”

“This is a family matter, Zach,” Warwick said.

“My brothers and I are very handy people to have about when you need help. If you wish to share your problem with us, we will help as best we can.”

He and his family had overheard many rumors about the Deville brothers. One of which was they were some kind of elite group of men who protected the monarchy. Warwick and his family had never been able to substantiate that rumor. Perhaps now was that time.

“Raven, we can access information no one else can,” Gabe said. “The Deville brothers are not just men who walk in society. There is more to us, just as there is to you lot.”

“I beg your pardon?” Dev said.

“We go places where you do not expect us to be, Sinclair. We see things, and if we are not there, you can be assured people we know are,” Gabe said.

“And your point is?” James snapped.

“Your sister Dorset was recently kidnapped. Your cousin was taken by one Captain Young. Mrs. Rose Sinclair was Miss Rose Abernathy and then was found to be your sister, duke. Your father’s secretary had her abducted,” Lord Raine said. “I could go on.”

The silence in the room was deafening. Warwick had to say he was shocked at what the Deville brothers knew about them. He and his family had done everything they could to keep what had happened a secret.

“We mean none of you any harm and count you all as friends,” Gabe added. “We have come here today to tell you we have a large network of contacts, and if you are in any danger, then we would offer our services. None of the information we hold would ever be used against you, but it allows us to do what we must.”

“Which is?” Dev asked.

Zach sighed.

“There are a few of you about London is my understanding?” James said, looking at Gabe’s gold ring. “Noblemen with those rings. A group of some sort who protect the monarchy?”
