“Then you must talk about it. I talked to Eden and Essie, and then Ash—”

“Not Somer?”

Her smile was small. “Somer was struggling with what happened to me and battling her own darkness.”

He remembered that. Somer walked about as if she was in a daze for days after that arrow had nearly taken Dorrie from them.

“How is Samantha?” Warwick asked.

“Somer and I visited her yesterday. She looked the same Samantha, and yet some of the fire in her eyes has extinguished,” Dorrie said. “She spends most of her time painting or throwing her knives at targets.”

“She better not be doing that alone, even if it’s on Wolf’s property.”

“Of course not. Do you think James would allow that?” Dorrie sent him a look that suggested he was every kind of fool.

“I will go and see her,” Warwick said. “And before you say anything, I will not torment her. I only wish to see if she is all right and show her that I am completely healed.”

“Because you care for her,” Dev said.

“As I do for everyone.”

“Not quite what I meant.”

He faced his siblings. Both were giving him a green-eyed, steady look. Dev, however, was checking his colors.

“Stop that.”

“It’s only because I care,” Dev said. “It takes time to recover from seeing someone you love as you were after that bullet ripped through you.”

“I know,” Warwick said. “But I am well now and don’t plan on getting shot again anytime soon. That hurt.”

Dev snorted. “A few of us have been talking and think it may be better if we go to Raven Castle until we find out who is behind all this.”

“Agreed,” Warwick said. There would be nowhere Samantha could go in Crunston Cliff where she was not watched, as the village was small. A castle and a few shops would mean she was safe.

“But we all go,” Dev added.

“Of course.”

“Getting back to Samantha,” Dorrie said, with her usual determination to stay on track.

“She is a friend and nothing more, now shut up, Dorrie. Eden is yelling something.”

Pulling out his earplugs, Warwick winced as Merry shrieked as she sprinted by him. He focused in on Eden’s voice.

“Come now, Warwick. The Deville Brothers have arrived, and James wants you here.”

“What the hell are they doing there?” he said, rising to his feet.

“How do I know? They just arrived,” Eden said.

“You sound testy,” Warwick said.

“I am not testy, I’m forceful. Please note the difference.”

“What’s she saying?” Dev asked Warwick.

“I bet he’s checking your colors,” Eden said.
