“I said Zach because I did not want to make it obvious.”

“We need something else to focus on,” Gabe said, his color almost gray now. His eyes then rose to the roof, as if he could see Dimity.

“I know where the Amble sisters are,” Forrest said softly.

“Really?” Zach said.

The others whistled.

“I didn’t tell the duchess yet; I think they need to be asked first if they wish for that to happen.”

“Agreed. Let’s go,” Zach said.

“Where?” Forrest asked.

“To ask them.”

“We can’t do that without speaking with Ruby first. She lives with them at 11 Nobby Lane.”

“Does she really? Miss Knight is certainly becoming more than a simple tutor in this household,” Nathan said. “One could say she is entwined in your life.”

“She is not a simple tutor,” Forrest snapped, rather unwisely because suddenly he had eyes on him.

“Figure of speech,” Nathan said.

“You’re awfully worked up about a simple figure of speech,” Michael said.

“No, I’m not. And back to the Amble sisters.”

“By all means evade what we all know but you have forbidden us to say,” Gabe said.

“Cease,” Forrest snapped.

Nathan smiled. “You can’t keep your eyes off our sweet Miss Knight, cousin.”

“You’re engaged!”

“And therefore cannot call a woman sweet?” Nathan tsked. “That seems unfair.”

“Shut up, and we are not going after the Amble sisters, for pity’s sake. If they wish to speak with the duchess, I’m sure they can swap letters. Besides, your brother needs your support. He cannot sit here with the duchess, he’d likely murder her.”

“Very true,” Gabe said. “What is taking so long?” He looked at the ceiling once more.

“You are not serious?” Forrest said. “I told you it could take hours.”

Gabe moaned.

“Excuse me, Mr. Howarth.”

“Yes. What is it, Fairfax?”

“A Mr. Winston is at the servants’ entrance and wishes to speak with Miss Knight urgently.”

“Miss Knight is with Lady Raine. I will come and speak with him,” Forrest said.

“Mr. Winston said to pass on that it concerns her brother, Mr. Howarth.”

“Lead on, Fairfax.”
