They were soon crouched beside Harry. Her eyes went up, and she saw the dark figure of Baron motionless and tied to the figurehead.

We are here. She tried to send every thought she had, to both him and Ash.

“How can we get him down?” she whispered.

“There is a rope ladder.” Harry pointed. “He unconscious, and his face is severely bruised, as I suspect is his body.”

“I will go up the ladder,” Warwick said. “If we fall, then I will be with him in the water.”

“We need to get to Ash,” Gus said.

“Warwick, Nicholas, and I will rescue Baron,” James said. “You others go and rescue Ash.”

They crept off again, and Dorrie hoped they managed to save Baron, when the act seemed almost impossible. They moved back from the ship where they could speak.

“We need a distraction,” Cam said.

Dev nodded. “If we can get all the crew to one area of the ship, then we can slip on board and get to Ash.”

“Where is he?” Dorrie asked.

Harry pointed to the bow.

“Is that Ace’s ship?” Dev said, pointing to the vessel two down from theRobbin.

“I think so. What is the name on it?” Cam asked.

“TheThea.”

“Then yes. He named it after his wife.”

They ran then, as fast as they could, and were soon heading up the gangway of theThea.

“What’s the meaning of this!” A man approached them as they arrived on the deck.

“Sssh,” Cam hissed. “He is Lord Sinclair, and we are friends of the Dillinger brothers. His brother”—Cam pointed at Gus—“has been captured by Radcliff and is on that ship. We must get to him, but to do that we need a distraction.”

Dorrie thought it was likely the man thought them mad.

“Oliver and Daniel are our friends,” Dev said. “They would help if they were here.”

“I don’t like Radcliff,” the man said.

“That makes all of us then,” Cam said.

The man narrowed his eyes and leaned in to inspect Dev.

“I’ve seen you on theTheabefore with Mr. Dillinger.”

Dev nodded. “I am Lord Sinclair.”

“Our duke and marquis are busy, or we would have brought them too,” Cam added.

They decided that a very loud fight breaking out just below theRobbinwould prove the perfect distraction. Ace’s crew were more than happy to oblige, as Radcliff’s crew had told them their vessel was inferior and wouldn’t win if they raced.

They left theTheaand crouched together out of sight.

“It is taking too long,” Dorrie whispered.
