“I love you, Ashford Charlton.”
His smile was slow, but it reached all corners of his face.
And then she felt it: the tension.
“What?” He frowned. “You gasped.”
“Something is wrong. I can feel it. I must check my family.”
She ran with him at her side. Ducking into the first box, she found everyone laughing, but Dev saw her.
“What has happened?”
“I don’t know, but I feel something is not right.”
“I don’t feel it, so it can’t be family.” He moved to her side. “Hello, Ash.”
“Devon.”
The men eyed each other, and then Dev nodded. Dorrie had no idea what that meant, and as the tension inside her was climbing, she didn’t care. But she felt the hand Ash had on her back, supporting her.
“What is wrong, Dorrie?” he said to her. “What can I do for you?”
“I don’t know, just that something does not feel right.”
“I have a note for Mr. Ashford Charlton.” A boy appeared at the entrance to their box just as Nicholas arrived.
“Baron is in danger,” Nicholas said reaching their side. “I had a vision.”
Ash took the note and tore it open. Dev read it over his shoulder.
“Radcliff has him,” he rasped, and then suddenly he was moving, running out of the box, and soon he had disappeared.
“Gus!” Dev roared.
They moved to the hallway, and Gus arrived in seconds, along with Warwick and Harry.
“Ash has gone. He received word that Radcliff has Baron. Nicholas saw the danger.”
Gus didn’t wait; he ran down the stairs with the others on his heels.
Dorrie wanted to follow, but a hand on her arm stopped her.
“We will not catch them now. We must get to the carriage,” Dev said. “I know his destination.”
They hurried down the stairs and outside to locate their carriage. Dorrie
started to climb in with James, Dev, and Cam when they reached it.
“No, definitely not.” Dev grabbed her wrist. “Go home and await us there,” he said.
Dorrie jammed her elbow into his stomach and climbed inside.
“What did the note say?” Dorrie asked her brother.
“That was not necessary. I am just protecting you.” Dev climbed inside wheezing.
“She is here because she cares for Ash.” Warwick asked. “What did the note say?”
