“Goddamn. Oh, fuck, Elena,” he growled. He pushed in another inch and she squeezed again. Inch by inch, he pushed and paused, and she squeezed each time until he was buried up to his tightening balls. He pulled back and glided in, his cock dancing inside her.

“Wanna watch you come, Gorgeous. Wanna see it in your eyes.”

Each thrust rubbed her clit, until he sent her back over the brink. He stared down into her eyes and she gazed back, certain she could see forever at the moment he roared out his climax.

Nineteen

Oh, God, I did not mean to do that.

From under him, Elena quirked her eyebrow at Camden. “What’s wrong?”

“If that didn’t wake Tina up, I’ll eat my boots. Without any of your dipping sauces to go with them.”

Elena stifled a laugh. “Get to chewing then, because if she were awake, she’d be calling my name and halfway in here by now.”

“You sure?”

“Positive.” Then she gave him a squeeze that made him groan. Dear God in heaven, she was the best lover he’d ever had. Warm and generous, bold and not the least bit ashamed of what they did, of what he did to her. “Want to go for round two?”

“Are you trying to kill me, woman?” He chuckled and nuzzled her neck. Truth was, he was still mostly hard and it wouldn’t take much to get him going again. That squeeze damn near did it all on its own. But he also wanted to bask in the afterglow—hold her in his arms, taste her skin, smell her vanilla-and-mint scented hair, listen to her heart beating when he pressed his ear against her. If only for tonight, he’d found the peace that had eluded him since that long-ago phone call that had shattered his sleep.

He wanted to drift off in his newfound peace, let it carry him until morning, then he wanted to wake up beside her and begin the rest of their life together at her side. He wanted to sit Tina down at breakfast and explain to her that she could count on him to be there always, for the rest of her life.

But first, he knew they had to get past the Bennetts and any sort of trouble Elena might have inadvertently put herself in. Really, that Cici had dragged her into.

“Okay, now, what’sthatlook?” Elena asked, running her hand across the stubble on his cheek.

“Gorgeous, there is nothing I would rather do in the world than make love with you again, even if we risked waking up the Mermaid. But, we aren’t done talking. Not about the past this time, but about what’s going on right now with the Bennetts. With Cici. With Lawrence Franklin.”

She stiffened under him, and he knew he’d hit a nerve. “Yeah, we do need to talk.”

Camden shifted them until they were side by side. He propped up on one elbow. “Hey, I’m not angry.” Camden stroked her hair. “You didn’t ask to be in the middle of this.”

Elena looked away. “Well, today, I kinda did put myself in the middle of it.”

She’s worried about Franklin, Camden thought. He tilted her chin until she was looking at him again. “Babe, we’ve got an agent on Franklin. That’s how I know he was at Delia’s today, and so were you. That’s also how I know the two of you made eye contact and that it was unpleasant—”

“That’s an understatement.”

“But, you didn’t do anything to draw his interest. He’s the one who showed up at the restaurant after you’d gone with Cici. And hell, you’re there all the time, and he’s a new face, isn’t he?”

Elena looked almost relieved. He’d hit again—she was just as confused by Lawrence’s presence as they were. “Yeah, exactly, he is new. I’d never seen him there before and it’s not like I’m a stranger to Delia’s. Then he shows up two days in a row.” Elena shook her head. “I was thinking that maybe I was being paranoid, that it made sense if his meeting got canceled that he’d reschedule for the same place the next day. But, do you guys think it’s weird, too?” She fixed Camden with a worried look. “I don’t like him, Cam. I don’t know why I have such a bad feeling about him, beyond that he’s just kinda skeevy. I know you can’t talk about it, but…should I be worried?”

Camden stroked her hair to reassure her. “Not when you’ve got me. I still can’t tell you all of what’s going on, but I can tell you some more. Roger Bennett is possibly being targeted—I see that look in your eyes and it’s okay, his life isn’t in danger and neither is Cici’s or the twins, else we’d be doing things much differently. But, Roger might be more vulnerable to blackmail now that he’s in politics. We’re just running interference for the moment, trying to assess the threat level, figure out the players.”

“You think Lawrence Franklin is a player?”

“Babe, he’s one of the top political campaign finance managers in California, of course he’s a player. Thing is, we need to determine if he’sourplayer, or if he’s gone to the other side.”

Elena nodded. “Makes sense.Dónde está el dinero.”

“Come again?”

“Where’s the money. If you’re going to find corruption, you follow the money trail.”

Camden grinned. “Gina was right, we should hire you.”

Elena raised her eyebrows. “Gina your co-worker?”
