“I’m loving this mesh top,” I mention as we walk back together. “I really want to strip off the corset and suck on your tits, baby.”

Silva perfumes as she shivers, making me grin.

“Ugh, you don’t play fair,” she groans.

“Never,” I agree, making sure she has her keys before sending her back behind the bar.

“Thank you for changing out my tires,” Silva calls out to Shep as she stands in front of him.

He’s finishing his beer and shrugs with a grin.

“I’m happier knowing you’ll be safe when we start to get snow,” Shep says, standing. “Are those guys going to be an issue?”

“Possibly,” she sighs. “I don’t know yet.”

Shep nods curtly, his dark brows drawing together. He’s a big guy, and his dark jeans and flannel shirt are not out of place because everyone knows that you can come as you are at Club 21. They don’t stand on ceremony here.

“I dislike that,” he grunts finally. “No one is allowed to come here and fuck up what we have.”

“Let me handle it,” Silva says. “I’ll know more soon.”

“Let’s go Shep,” I say behind him. He’s getting pissed off, and that’s not going to help anyone.

His blonde head of hair nods, and he turns to follow me out as he raises his hand in farewell to Silva. I’ll check in on her later. I’ll be back at closing as usual to follow her home. It’s been my ritual for a long time, and I don’t plan to give it up now.

“Syrus,” Shep begins once I’m driving out of the lot.

“Mmhm?” I ask, my eyes on the road.

“Don’t let her do anything stupid,” he says. “It can be easier to decide to run than stand your ground. She’s a fixture here. No one should be running her out of town.”

I hadn’t even thought of that and I nod curtly.

Silva belongs in Widows Peak. It’s her home, and no one will be driving her away as long as I have anything to say about it.

Chapter Twelve

Silva

Iam not thrilled about the meeting I’m headed to this afternoon. Everything inside of me is screaming that I run. Something big is going to happen, and there’s nothing I can do to stop it.

Pulling up in front of the club, I blow out a breath as I see Isidro and his alphas standing there waiting for me. Syrus is also parked in the spot next to me, and it seems as if I’m the last to this little party.

At least Syrus won’t let these people take me away. I’m not sure what the crime would be. Are they even allowed to punish me for technically colluding with a criminal?

Ah, there it is: the guilt I always feel when I remember the price for my freedom. It’s crushing, and I have to press on my chest as the air leaves my lungs.

Fuck, I can’t fall apart. Later that’s a possibility, but not now. I have a very uncomfortable conversation to get over with.

Grabbing my phone, I send Lexi a text. Maybe I’ll feel better if I reach out. She’s my reason for everything I’ve ever done. I need to get a handle on my anxiety.

Me

I hope you had a great lunch date! Eat some cake for me.

She and Emmett have been dating for a few months now. Emmett has been head over heels for that girl for years, but Lexi only recently started seeing him as more than a best friend over the past year. The two of them have always been inseparable, but since they made things official, it’s worse.

They’ve been dancing around each other for so long, so I’m excited for them both.
