“It was perfect,” she says, leaning into me.
Sometimes, you’re not looking for things and they drop into your lap. It doesn’t mean you need it any less.
Chapter Twenty-Seven
Silva
Everything is covered in snow. It’s been snowing for three goddamned days, and I have cabin fever. I’m not used to being home for this long, regardless of how long I’ve been in Colorado.
It never sucks any less.
I’ve read books on my e-reader, watched movies, and napped. I am over it.
Syrus, Isidro, Harlan, and Kyren have turned a large area of my basement into a gym. Not that I mind, I haven’t had much use for it. I keep saying I’ll do something with the space, and never do. A gym works just as well.
They’ve been sparring, lifting weights, doing crunches, jumping jacks, and all sorts of other things. I also ran on the treadmill, but that eventually got boring and exhausting. I’d rather run outside. At one point, I very happily curled up in a corner to watch them. They make yummy eye candy, and I said as much as they looked amused at me.
Now, I’m fucking tired of being inside!
“Hey Princess, come with me,” Kyren says, grabbing my hand.
“What?” I pout, bored out of my mind.
“Mi amor,”Izzy chuckles, pulling me away from Kyren. “I’m sorry you’re tired of being inside. Hopefully it’ll stop snowing soon.”
“I’m about to run around outside just for some fresh air,” I sigh. “I wish I had thought to screen in the front porch. Now it’s too late.”
“Maybe not,” Kyren says, pushing Izzy and I toward the back of the house.
“What does that mean?” I ask, thinking he’s crazy.
“You’ll see,” he says.
I worked like crazy right up until the snowstorm. I’ve barely been home, and I got roped into helping with some things in town.
They could have done anything to the house while I’ve been gone and I’d have no idea because I rarely go out onto the back porch. My kitchen looks out at the side of my yard, and the guys take out the garbage. There’s been no reason recently for me to go to the backyard.
They’ve also taken up feeding the fire with wood from the stocked area out back.
What are they up to?
I’m wearing fuzzy socks, and a sweatsuit to stay warm, despite the fire and the heater being on. The house just needs all of the extra layers as it ages.
Kyren opens the back door out onto the porch and I see Harlan smirking as he turns on another outdoor heater. It’s cozy even as the cold air drifts through a newly installed screen…
“When did you manage to do this?” I ask, taking everything in.
There’s a large porch swing, a couch that looks a lot like a bed, and cute woven blankets and a comforter tossed over the ends.
“While you were at work,” Harlan says, kissing my forehead. “I’m going to start dinner with Syrus. Work out your frustrations, baby.”
Huffing out a laugh, I shake my head as I stand outside with a relieved sigh. I’m the girl who used to love standing out on the porch during lightning storms to rate the different strikes. Lexi would scream when the transformers would blow and the sky would turn green from it, while I would cheer.
I’m not made to be stuck inside, even if I do work in a bar.
“Thank you,” I breathe happily.
It’s just warm enough to be comfortable out here, and my socked feet aren’t wet. Life is good.
