“Probably but I have to make an appointment with the professor and academics office first.”

“Get on it.”

“I will,” she promises. “Now tell me about you. You know how much I love living vicariously through you.” I grin a little and look down at my lap. “Um, did I just see you look away from the phone with a giddy little smile?”

I snap my gaze back up. “No.”

“Liar! Tell me everything now.”

“There’s nothing to tell.”

“Stop bullshitting me. Now that I think about it. You have that look on your face.”

“What look?”

“The look like all you’re missing is the crazy sex hair. You met someone, didn’t you?”

Part of me wants to keep Colson to myself, but if there’s anyone I’d want to share him with, it’s my sister, so I say, “Actually, yeah.”

“I can already tell that he’s way better than Webber ever was.”

“Oh, shut up.” If she were here, I’d throw a pillow at her head. Webber wasn’t…all bad. We just weren’t meant to be. His person is still out there somewhere.

“I’m right though.” She punches the air in triumph. “Is he hot?”

I wouldn’t necessarily use that word because Colson is so much more. Sex on legs. A cinnamon roll underneath the I-can-take-care-of-myself exterior he walks around with. The true meaning of a friend. A man who’s left an imprint far greater than anyone else in my life ever has.

“He’s nothing like you’d expect,” I offer honestly because it’s the best way to put it. Months ago, I wouldn’t have thought we’d be here, but we are, and it’s the best feeling in the world.

She oohs and ahhs. “I’m learning those are the best kind of guys. The ones that surprise you the most between the sheets, if you know what I mean.”

I roll my eyes playfully. “And you know this because?”

“I plead the fifth,” she says shamelessly.

“So, you’re allowed to know all of my business, but I don’t get any of yours?”

She snaps her fingers and points at the screen. “That’s exactly how it goes, big sis. Tell me more. I want to know exactly how Mr. Nothing Like You’d Expect won you over.”

Her eyes bulge out of her head when I tell her about the first day we met and how he walked in on me. I go over variousdetails of our friendship and the most important one, how he was there for me through the struggle of keeping Dad’s infidelity a secret.

“I think I might be a little bit in love with him too.” She teases in a dreamy way that has me laughing.

“Don’t get ahead of yourself.”

“Does he have any hot brothers?”

“You’re terrible? You know that?”

“It never hurts to ask. Sooo, does he?”

Heartbreak clutches my chest when I say, “No. It’s just him and his mom.” I figure it’s not necessary to get into the details of it with her. Part of me feels like I’d be betraying his trust if I told her.

“Just him and his mom? His dad isn’t in the picture?”

I bite the corner of my lip and shake my head. “I don’t know any details. Just that he isn’t in his life.”

“Well, that sucks ass.”
