Brooks dipped his head under the water as he approached and resurfaced in front of her. He shook the water from his black curls and Xia laughed as it splashed across her face.
“Don’t start a war you can’t win, Deathless God,” she teased. “You may control the shadows, but the water is my domain, and you’re surrounded.”
“Alright.” Brooks held up his hands in defeat with a smile. “Is the cold water my punishment or did you have something worse in mind?”
“I’m still deciding, so you have time to plead your case.”
“Shall I sing your praises? Would that convince you to take it easy on me?”
“I don’t know,” she shrugged. “Wouldn’t hurt to try.”
“Hmm, where do I begin? Your laugh sounds like tinkling bells and it’s cute as hell.”
Her lips are soft and stir a hunger inside me when she bites the bottom one.
His eyes dropped to her lips and he cleared his throat as he looked away.
“Go on.” That mischievous gleam returned and was all the encouragement he needed.
“Your hair dries into soft waves and makes you look like a wild kind of beauty, especially when the green in your eyes turns into a turbulent storm of different shades. How am I doing so far?”
Not well enough.
“It’s a start, but I’m not inclined toward leniency yet.”
“Okay, okay. Let’s see. Your nose crinkles when you laugh. It’s pretty adorable.”
Her Siren is fiery and sparks a passion inside us like no other being in creation.
“You’re shy, but not in a timid way. You’re so kind, it hurts. It honestly makes me feel like an asshole, because I’m pretty sure you’ve never had an indecent thought.”
I’ve had enough for the both of us since she stepped into the water.
“That is not true, and you are not an asshole. You’re colorful, but far from impure.”
“You don’t know the half of it, Sunshine,” he mumbled.
“Oh yeah, what am I missing?” Xia drifted closer and into a beam of light. It caught the shear wave of her gown and, despite the cold, his dick hardened.
I want her.
“I am an asshole, though,” he swallowed. “You just poured your heart out, and all I can think about is the way your lips move when you talk along with about ten different ways they could be the cause of my ruin.”
Her breathy exhale was near silent, but it sounded like an explosion in his ears. Chaos paced the corners of Brooks’ mind, the anticipation rolling in waves through their shared body.
“You’re still not off the hook,” she whispered, heat blazing in the storm of her eyes. “What else?” Xia took another step toward him. Any closer and she would know what was happening under the surface.
Touch her. Taste her.
“I can see everything through your gown and I’m having a really hard time respecting the space you asked for. Especially when you stand in the moonlight.” His gaze dipped without permission and a slam of longing sent a shiver down his spine. Her nipples were peaked, creamy skin illuminated under the water and he could see every detail.
Xia’s eyes darkened before she looked at herself. She didn’t move away or hide behind crossed arms, and she never faltered as her chaos slowly moved the water away from her chest to her navel. Every brilliant inch from the waist up was exposed to the night air.
Brooks opened his mouth, but no words left his tongue. He tried not to stare, to look anywhere but at the perfect curve of her breasts, but it was a war he wasn’t sure how to fight.
Go to her, Chaos growled.Fuck her.Claimher. Or I will.
Chaos was a force inside, and Brooks had a feeling down to his very soul that when he and his Siren clashed, the world would feel the aftershock. Blood pounded in his ears as he took her in.
