Crap, crap, crap, crap!
“Is this a freaking joke?!”
“No, Milo. This is not a joke.” Jay sighed through his mask. “I wish there were a less invasive way to do this, but I’m notyou. Youprobably could have figured out how to reverse the extraction remotely, but I’m not as fucking smart as you. So we’re going to have to do this the old-fashioned way.”
“What do youmean by ‘reverse the extraction’?Whatextraction?”
“If you would stop freaking the fuck out and just let mework, you would find out much quicker, Milo.”
“Well, excuse mefor having questions! You’re about to perform freaking non-consensualbrain surgery on me!I think I’m entitled to freak the fuck out a little bit!”
“Oh my god. He said the F-word!” NOVA gasped.
“Don’t be dramatic. It’s notbrain surgery.It’s a cranial injection.”
Iscreechedin rage, and Jay let out a long-suffering sigh.
“Shit, Jay. If this works, he’s gonna cut your dick off…”

“Well, if this works, hopefully he’ll want to do things to my dick that don’t involve knives,” he replied dryly.
“Ew, Jay. TMI.” NOVA sniffed.
I groaned. I was sotiredof being sodamned confused.
“Alright, I think I was able to salvage most of the memories you destroyed, and the ones I couldn’t save I filled in with copies of my own memories, so sorry in advance for the odd shifts in perspective.”
“You told me I could see my mother if I helped you! This is insane! Let me go!”
“Hold still, you don’t want to move when I insert this needle. I need you to be awake for this so I can check in if necessary.”
“Jay! For the love of Einstein, don’t you DARE stick a needle in my?—”
“Injecting in three…”
“YOU’RE INSANE!”
“Two…”
“JAY!!”
“One…”

I reverently ran my fingers over the sharp Helvetica font on my clean white employee orientation pamphlet.
I couldn’t believe I was here.
Nearly tripping on one of my shoelaces, I stumbled onto the Neurovance Tech campus for the first time.
I was still in shock over the fact that I’d somehow scored a job at the global leading biotech company for memory therapy.Freshout of my master’s program… It was unheard of…
