“I don’t know what to do,” he whispered, and I patted his hand.

“I’ve known Shemhazai for a long time. He’s… one of a kind.” I smiled, and Gabe let out a humorless chuckle.

“He’s had a lot of partners and even people that he loves, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen him with anyone the way he is with you, Gabriel.”

He looked at me, and he was so gutted that my heart ached.

“I fucked it allup.”

“No, sweetie,” I said gently, brushing his hair out of his eyes. “You’re making it better. It just doesn’t seem like it right now because Shemhazai is a stubborn prick who wouldn’t know a good thing if it bit him in the ass.”

I celebrated the small twitch I’d earned from Gabe’s lips.

“Healing hurts. He’s hurting right now and taking it out on the person he perceives as the one inflicting the most pain. But sweetie, you’re the equivalent of pouring alcohol on an open wound. It burns like a bitch while it’s happening, but without you, all the bad things will continue to infect him, and he’ll never get any better.”

He stared at me for a long while, and finally, he gave me a slow nod.

“I hope you’re right.”

“I’m a woman, sweets.” I winked at him. “I’m always right.”

I got to my feet, but he grabbed my hand. I looked down at him and found sad, lonely eyes staring back up at me.

“Where are you going?”

I smiled at him.

“To get your man, of course. Wait here. I’ll send him back home soon.”

His eyes widened in surprise, and I winked at him.

“Maybe try and clean this place up. No one wants to have makeup sex on broken glass.”

He let out a surprised burst of laughter, and I shrugged, tossing my arms over my shoulders to stretch,

“Silly boys. Zero ability to self-regulate. What would you do without me?”

“Clearly, we’d be lost.” He grinned at me, and I chuckled as I made my way back out to find Shem.

“Lesigh,”I tossed back over my shoulder. “A witch’s work is never done.”

He knew.

He knew how disgusting I really was.

I’d spent my entire life trying to hide this heinous truth about myself from anyone who got too close. No oneknew. Not even Ramel, because if they found out, they would see me for what I truly was.

Weak.

Pathetic.

Disgusting.

I knew it would catch up with me eventually, and now it finally had. Gabe had discovered the truth, and there was no way he could still want me now that he’d seen.

I took a long pull of my drink at the bar of Hex and Haven. It was much less crowded than it had been when we’d first come here.
