Luna’s crystal shop had all-white shelving with light sand brown accents. Crystals of every shape, size, and color spilled over each surface, and the whole place smelled like pine and cedar.

It was my happy place, and I fuckinglovedworking here. Not only was the shop full of good vibes from all the crystals, but I loved that I got to spend every daywith my best friend.

“Maybe he’s your familiar,” Luna observed, tilting her head to the side curiously as she observed the cat, which was still stubbornly staring at us through the glass.

“Fuck, I hope not. Cats are selfish little bastards,” I grumbled, popping the till open and counting through the bills methodically.

I was the only witch in our circle that didn’t have a familiar yet. My mother and grandmother assured me mine would come to me any day now. I was hoping for a dog familiar, like Luci. My mom and grandmother both had dog familiars as well, though they each had black German Shepherds.

They were scary as fuck, and I was obsessed with them. I loved sweet little Luci too, but if I was going to pick an animal to represent me, it was definitely going to be something that could tear the dick off a man with little effort.

Though, I also had twin older brothers, and they did a pretty good job in the ‘keeping the dicks away from me’ department. Not that I needed help.

The whole being bi thing turned a lot of men off, and I wasn’t that mad about it.

Luna smirked at me and shook her head, causing her waist-length hair to swish down her back. Most of the women in our coven swooned over Luna Good’s hair. It was thick and had a tight wave to it. She often dyed it fun colors, and right now, she had it portioned out into striking chunks of bleach blond and violet purple. The two contrasting colors swirled together into little space buns on either side of her head, making her look like a tiny, wiccan version of Sailor Moon.

“A cat familiar would suit you.” She eyed me up and down, her lips twisting up in a snarky smirk. “You’re cute, but youwillfight. It’s very cat-like behavior.”

I huffed out a laugh and slammed the till shut, leaning on the counter and crossing my bright pink Doc Martens out behind me.

“I’m also a snarky asshole, which is another dominant trait in cats,” I quipped, and Luna chuckled in agreement.

The bell to the door rang, and the third member of our little possie, Willow Nurse, blew in, looking frantic.

“I’m fucking late!” Willow cried, her curly brown bob a wispy mess around her head.

Luna rolled her eyes. “If you’re late, why are you here? Isn’t today your first day at that greeting card place?”

Willow nodded, her brown eyes scanning the shop.

“Yeah, but I can’t find my jade necklace, and Ineedit! I just found out those bitches Sophie and Tammy got internships there too. I’m not going to make it through a day of their entitled bullshit without a little luck.”

Luna snatched up a silver chain with a jade stone on it and handed it to Willow without a second thought.

“Here, take this.”

Willow gave Luna a grateful look and dropped a hasty kiss on her cheek before fastening the necklace around her neck and rushing back out the door.

“Thanks, Luna! I owe you one! See you later!”

Then, she was gone as quickly as she came.

I rolled my eyes, though I was smiling.

“She’s a fucking hurricane.”

“Yeah, but cut her some slack. You know she’s been trying to get a design job for ages. This is big for her.”

I nodded. Luna was right. Out of the three of us, I had the leastambition, for lack of a better word. Willow had always wanted to go into graphic design, and Luna had dreams of opening this shop for as long as I could remember.

In contrast, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I couldn’t explain it, but it was like I was waiting for something. Call it a witch’s intuition, but I knew I had bigger things coming my way than a quiet life here in Salem. I was just waiting for the universe to tell me what it was.

For now, I was content to work this part-time job and help my mom out at home.

“Alright, is the till good to go? I’m gonna open up.”

I nodded and smiled.
