Rev tilted my chin up. His lips pressed to mine. “Marry me, Becca. Marry all of us.”

“Only if I get to walk her down the aisle.”

Hades!

I spun around, rushing into his embrace. “Dad! You’re okay!”

“I mean it.” He sounded choked up. “I get to hand you off if I have to give you up.”

“You’re not giving me up.” I kissed his cheek. “Just starting a different future than we imagined.”

“That doesn’t sound so bad, baby girl.”

It sounded perfect.

Chapter 13 Void

“Are you nervous?” I asked, tipping my chin down to look at my woman. She was fucking gorgeous in a red dress that showed off her curves without being too revealing. I thought she looked good enough to eat.

For this first dinner meeting with Isabella’s family, we kept it simple. I was the only one attending. In the future, Becca might bring all of us.

She reached for my hand and squeezed. “What do you think?”

“Maybe.” I winked at her. “Not regretting this, right?”

She shook her head, bouncing her thick black curls. “No. I still can’t believe you found my birth mother’s family.”

“And they’re excited to meet you.”

“They are. It’s sweet.” She inhaled and exhaled. Twice. “Okay. Ring the doorbell.”

Isabella Romano had been an heiress. She was born into wealth, and that was obvious as the door opened and we stepped inside what I could only describe as a mansion. Something straight out of a fucking magazine with too much cream and gold in the décor, along with grapes.

It was a good idea that we dressed up for this dinner because the invitation that was sent to Becca said casual, and these people all looked like they were going somewhere fancy, like the opera or a wedding.

I chose a black dress jacket and matching slacks, my best shoes that weren’t boots, and a white button-down shirt. Even my belt was shiny and new. Tell me I didn’t love this woman because I even got a haircut.

Her stepbrother, a biker, was always fucking her every chance I got. What a conversation opener. How would she deflect questions about how we met? This could be a fun night.

Becca lightly smacked my arm, and I focused on the couple who greeted us. They were older, probably in their sixties, but obviously had the money to afford good healthcare. None of that mattered if it didn’t bother Becca.

I only cared if they were kind and treated her well.

The woman, Francesca, smiled as she stared at Becca. Her eyes misted as she reached out her hands, touching Becca’s. “My goodness, you look just like Isabella. It’s astonishing.”

Becca returned her smile with a genuine one. “It’s lovely to meet you both, Francesca and Tony. Thank you for having us.”

“Of course,” Tony replied, stepping aside. “Please come in. Dinner will be served shortly.”

The evening started uneventfully. Polite conversation. Introductions. The type of stilted, stifling shit I hated. But this wasn’t about me. I wasn’t so consumed with my ego that I would take this away from Becca.

She seemed to be enjoying herself, but her smile was a little too forced. No one else noticed but me. And only because I watched her so often, I knew all her mannerisms and expressions. She couldn’t hide them from me.

The dinner, if you could call it that, was fancy shit on big plates with small amounts of food. Lots of colorful parts and hardly any flavor. My stomach growled as I sat there, hoping it didn’t betray me. I really just wanted a big fat steak and a loaded baked potato.

I figured this would be the only time we ever came to visit until I heard a commotion, and someone entered the house. Whoever it was ran toward us, heels clicking on the marble floors before appearing in the room where we sat discussing art.A woman who looked remarkably like Becca, only old enough to be her mother, rushed up to my ol’ lady.

“Are you Becca?”
