I didn’t precisely recall the moment I reached my peak, the wall of desire building quickly as soon as I knew Caroline had come. All I recognized was the way the knot of agitated strain dispersed, the hand at her mouth falling to the edge of the bed as I pumped cum over her rectum.

It didn’t matter that I wasn’t inside her properly, though I would have loved to have been. The only significance of the moment was in the exchange of pleasure and the knowledge that she trusted me to play with her limits in such an unapologetic way.

Collapsing back against the covers, I hoped she knew that I would never dare to do anything to disrespect her in real life again, and that, if need demanded it, I would give my life so that she could live, but more than that, I hoped she knew how much I fucking loved her.

Panting on my pillow, I couldn’t quite find the words to articulate those important feelings, but in the hush that followed, when her limbs entwined with mine, the warm and contented solace that enveloped us seemed to accomplish the task for me.

Satisfied silence was enough.

Her warm skin on mine was enough.

Nothing compared to the blessings we already had.

Chapter Twelve

Caroline

––––––––

PALE LIGHT STIRREDme from my slumber, and tugging the cover toward my face, my eyelids fluttered open to reveal white.

My brows knitted at that.White?

I blinked again, focusing on the bleached façade.White sheets were twisted in my fingertips, white walls surrounded me, and white machines stood by the bedside.

Heart beating harder, I pulled myself upright only to find Harper’s nurse, Elsa, standing there, watching me.Shivering at her scrutiny, I yanked the bedding closer around me.

“Good morning.”Elsa’s accent sounded harder than usual as her hands slid to her hips.

“Er, hi.”Glancing around the room, I noticed what should have been obvious from the start.Harper was nowhere to be seen.“Where’s Adam?”

For one dreadful moment, multiple answers to my question sprang to my mind.Maybe his heart had stopped again and the medics had been unable to save him, or perhaps he’d met with the officials while I slept and had already left Switzerland.Frozen terror swept over me at the preposterous potential outcomes.Logically, I accepted neither of those results could have transpired without me having noticed, but puzzled and panicked, my focus slid to Elsa for clarification.

“He is showering.”

Her attention landed on the empty space beside me, her gaze narrowing.Apparently, Elsa had agreed to let me stay with him—perhaps because of his relentless charm—but it seemed she didn’t approve of us sleeping together.
