“Anyone there?”
“Yeah.” Cue cocked his brow. “Two dead guys.”
Oh fuck!
Chapter Twenty-Five
Cleo stood by the bathroom door in the hallway. She consistently looked to the right and left at both exits. Maybe it was her anxiety or adrenaline. Whatever it was, she was in protective mode.
She’d offered up the girl to take a shower, but she vehemently declined. Who could blame her after the trauma she’d suffered? Now she was being held in a house full of strangers. Bikers. Cleo couldn’t imagine the fear she must be feeling. She had barely managed to get her own under control, and Cleo had the luxury of knowing she was safe.
The door cracked open, and Cleo straightened. The girl had cleaned up and washed her face. There were a few scrapes, but it looked like she’d tended to them. Cleo had set up towels and washcloths, along with some medicine for her cuts. She’d offered to help, but the girl refused.
She widened the door but didn’t make a move to leave the bathroom. She’d changed into the clothes Cleo gave her. They were about the same size.
The girl poked her head out the door, looking in both directions.
“Some of the guys are cleaning up the living room, but I think they’re almost done. I can make them leave if you want.”
She shrugged.
Cleo smiled and held up her finger. “Wait here.” She rushed down the short hallway. There were two prospects scrubbing the floor and another two rolling up her blood stained carpet.I love that rug.
“Can you guys leave for a little bit?”
The new prospects cleaning the floors looked up. One knitted his brows and scowled. “Cross said we had to clean it.”
“I know, but can you finish later?”
“No, Cross gave us an order.”
“Well, my order trumps Cross’s, because this is my house.” She blinked, unsure where her assertiveness came from. “Please.”
When they didn’t move, she sighed.
“Everybody get the fuck out.”
She glanced up to see Joker standing in the doorway. He was glaring at the prospects, and surprisingly, they immediately followed his command.
“Thanks.”
He lowered his chin as the prospects passed. Joker closed the door but remained inside.
Cleo forced a smile. “Can you leave too?”
Joker was shaking his head before she even finished her sentence. “Wraith doesn’t want you alone with her.”
She understood his concerns and they were valid. After all, she had just stabbed a man in her living room. However, Wraith was forgetting that the girl had saved Cleo.
“I know but…”
“Cleo, I madethemleave but I gotta stay. It’s a compromise. Take it.”
She knew it was a no-win situation.
When she turned to retrieve the girl, she was standing a few feet behind Cleo.
“Can I make you something to eat? Or would you like more tea?”
