I raise a humorous brow at her. “Are you really penciling your future husband into your schedule?”

“This is a business meeting, so yes, you’re going on my business schedule. I have a lot going on, Massimo, and I don’t plan on ever dropping everything for a man like you.”

Her words should hurt, but I’m too fucking giddy she’s finally been pushed right into my arms. “Thursday before lunch works for me.”

She types on her phone, then looks at me over the top of it. Raising a brow, she says, “Are you going to write this down?”

“I’ll remember.”

“You’re sure you’re not busy? Shouldn’t you check your schedule first? Or better yet, should we go and askSheilaif you’ll be available that day?”

I chuckle, noting the emphasis she put on my assistant’s name. “We could askSheila. Would you like me to see if she’s still out there so I can call her in?” I allow my finger to hover over the intercom on my desk phone.

Liana rolls her eyes. “I don’t really care. I’ve already put it in my schedule. If you don’t show up, then that’s on you.”

“And where and when will I be showing up on Thursday?”

Pushing herself up to a stand, she says, “My office. Twelve o’clock sharp. Don’t be late.”

“Wouldn’t dream of it,” I say, and her eyes narrow just a bit.

Ignoring me, she turns and leaves my office without another word.

I lean back in my chair and smile, fucking thrilled I’m about to get everything I’ve wanted.

Liana might be upset with how this marriage is coming about, but all I need is a commitment from her. Then she’ll see just how fucking perfect we’ll be together.

LIANA

I’m reading through the additions I made to Massimo’s contract while I wait for him to show up for our meeting. If he wants to force me to do something I don’t want to do, then I’m going to get everything I possibly can from this marriage and make sure he’s just as miserable as I am.

“Nicco’s picking you up for lunch, right?” I ask Izzy, who’s sitting at her desk, working on her computer.

“Yeah, he should be here any minute, why?”

“Just curious. Usually, he picks you up by now.”

Izzy drags her gaze from her computer and raises a brow. “Are you trying to get rid of me?”

“No. I just know how you get when you and baby get hungry.”

She laughs. “That is true. If I thought I got hangry before, this little baby takes the cake on hangriness.”

I laugh.

“He said he’s on his way, so I’m sure he’ll be here any minute.”

A knock sounds on the door.

“Ahh, that must be him. Come in,” I call out, loud enough for Nicco to hear through the door.

Lainey pokes her head in. “Um, you have a visitor, Liana.”

My eyes widen when I realize she must be talking about Massimo. He’s early. I specifically timed this so Izzy would be gone while he was here, but of course the day I have him come, Nicco is late andhe’searly.

Lainey pushes the door open, making space for Massimo to walk in.
