It didn’t take me long to perk up at the aroma that reached me mid-episode. I sniffed, and my stomach clenched with hunger.
I would not!
Footsteps neared again, and I swung my head back to the television as if I hadn’t been sniffing the air to breathe in more of the delicious scent.
“Are you hungry?” His question went unanswered. “I made you a sirloin.”
I didn’t know what that was, but the smell beat against my resolve. He sighed and placed it on the surface in front of me. I eyed the sliced cubes, then him. The aroma coming from it was nice. Feeding wouldn’t harm me. It didn’t mean I would speak to him. Shifting, I settled on the couch and reached forward, plucking one of the slices to pop it into my mouth.
Savory taste exploded on my tongue. I moaned and ate another. Griffin left again, but he was back soon.I might have to break my silence to ask for more.
“Put this on,” he murmured gruffly, placing the cloth beside me, and returned to his spot. He leaned back and cleared his throat.
As I ate, he kept moving until I peeked over at him pulling at the front of his pants, his face red again.
Humans were strange.
Chapter 8
Griffin
Sol leaned forward,my shirt molding around her body. Her eyes widened as something happened on the show. I reached to adjust my stiff cock and resettled on the couch. I thought getting her covered up would give me respite from the hard-on, but seeing her in my clothes had me hard as fuck. Yet, I couldn’t even hold her. Not only was she withholding her touch, but she refused to speak. Every time I attempted to broach any subject, she cut me off with a hiss.
As violent as she looked, no fear existed inside me, only the same fear that she would leave. It was day two of her ignoring me, and it was making me antsy.
There was my other issue: I couldn’t keep putting off my meeting with Sebastian any longer. He’d been hounding me, and I’d had to use excuse after excuse to put him off, but if I continued any longer, he’d show up at the house, and exposing Sol to any bastard wouldn’t fly.
I finally gave in and agreed to meet him tomorrow to give him that damn artifact he’d hired me to retrieve
Sol laughed, her head falling back, making her damp hair rustle. She mimicked how the woman on the television tuckedher hair behind her ear, and her smile spread so wide it was blinding.
My heart stuttered.
She was a beauty.
And mine. If only she’d stop icing me out. I’d watched her absorbing the information like a sponge, only parting from her when she went to shower, or when I went to grill her more meat. Meanwhile, I battled with intensifying fear.
Fear that she’d leave me. That she’d disappear in the middle of the night while I was asleep, and because of that I’d remained on the couch.
Ann was my fuck buddy, on and off for a few years, but telling Sol about any woman I’d screwed didn’t sit right. It made me feel sick. And that was an odd thing to grapple with. I didn’t want to speak of any woman who came before her. Or think of them.
Even now, I tried to remember, and my thoughts trailed back to Sol. To her excitement, her furious passion. She’d hooked her claws into me.
Leaving her behind tomorrow night was already putting me on edge despite knowing Tali would be here to take care of her while I was meeting with the client. It wouldn’t take long, but I was still stressed.
After this meeting, I wasn’t taking on any jobs. I would enjoy Sol and my time with her.
I’d show her what human life was about so she could love it and never want to part from me. Fortunately, she was already obsessed with watching television and taking showers, hopefully to the point that she couldn’t do without them.
She cocked her head, her eyebrows furrowing. Her chest expanded, then she turned to me, pinning me with her brown-gold eyes. She frowned and rolled her shoulders.
“Youclaimedmany human women.” She nodded as her intelligent eyes scanned my face. “The way I claimed you.” Iblinked, speechless. She said it so abruptly. I’d never been shy about this shit. “You are turning red,” she murmured, cocking her head.
“Erm.” I cleared my throat, searching for the words. “I fucked them. It was a physical exchange. What you and I have done ismore,” I insisted.
She nodded, her eyes flicking back to the television, eyebrows remaining furrowed.
“I understand. Humans . . . fuck. I claimed.” Her lips pursed, and she turned back to me. Her eyes lit up. “I fucked males before you, but I claimed you because you are my mate.” She was nodding sagely; contemplation splashed across her features.
