Fifty-Five

I feel her body stiffen against mine when I tell her she needs to be honest. But I see the resignation in her eyes. She doesn’t want to tell us for fear of how we’ll react, but she knows that she doesn’t have a choice, we need to know who did this. I need to know who I need to rip to fucking shreds.

She takes a deep breath and then looks at Nitro.

“He said he wanted to take over the club. He thinks that he should have been promoted before now.”

“Fuck,” Nitro snaps and we all turn to him, clearly, he’s figured it out before the rest of us. He raises his eyebrows at me like I should know the answer, but I don’t. Or maybe I do but I can’t fucking think right now, I just need to know who hurt my fucking girl.

“I can tell them, or you can?” He locks his gaze on her, she drops her head in a small nod and then turns to look at me.

“One of the prospects, new guy, longer hair, I don’t know his name.”

“Rob.” The prospect who’s had my girl’s back for weeks pipes up from the back of the room. Normally we don’t let non committee members in here, but tonight we have the ones wetrust in here. The brothers that we know will protect her, at all costs. She smiles at prospect and then looks back to me.

“Yeah. The other.” She swallows the lump in her throat, and I squeeze her arm giving her some encouragement. “Was Snake.”

The room erupts into chaos, brothers shouting and yelling. But I’m not paying attention to them, my eyes are locked on my girls as silent tears fall down her cheeks and her eyes search mine, for any sliver of doubt. But all she’ll find is love, respect and pride.

Nitro bangs the gavel, and the room quietens down. The brothers turn to the Prez, but I can’t take my eyes off my girl. She looks fucking exhausted and now I get why she was so fucking terrified of coming here. Snake’s a quiet member of the club always keeps himself to himself, but he’s been a member for years. Who knows what kind of influence he has.

“Prez.” I turn to him, finally taking my eyes off my girl. “She needs rest. We’re done.” I stand lifting her with me and make my way to the door when Nitro stops us.

“We’ll make sure that you’re safe while you’re here Marissa. I promise.”

She gives him a nod, but the scraping of a chair has us all turning as the Prospect stands. “I’ll sit outside your room.”

“Dy—Prospect.” She shakes her head, stopping herself from calling him by his real name. But Tongue gets up from his chair and stands beside the prospect.

“I’ll stay with him. You’re safe to sleep.”

I mouth a ‘thank you’ to them both and gently pull her from the room, stopping only to grab our phones from the locker before walking her through the clubhouse and up to the fourth floor to where my room is.

I tug her into my room and close the door behind us. I wish I felt rage, but all I feel is failure. She was hurt because I was too hung up on myself to just tell her how I felt. Too damn stubbornto just admit my feelings. I drop to my bed and place my head in my hands.

“Wrath?”

I don’t move. I can’t look at her right now. I feel so ashamed. I hear her moving and then feel her drop to her knees in front of me.

“Wrath, please?”

“Can you ever forgive me?” I ask in a whisper.

“What?” Confused she falls back onto her heels, her hands resting on my legs.

“For everything I did. For pushing you away. Can you ever forgive me for getting you hurt?”

She lets out a small laugh and then grabs my face.

“I get why you pushed me away, Wrath. I understand. I forgive you for speaking to me like a piece of shit the night you kicked me out. But if you ever speak to me like that again, I’ll cut off your dick.”

I let out a surprised laugh and lean forward kissing the tip of her nose.

“Baby…”

“No, Wrath. The only thing that I need to forgive you for, is for the way you spoke to me. Getting taken, the things that happened to me, that’s not on you. They’re on Snake.”

“My brothers and I, we’ll find him. We’ll make him pay.”
