She places a kiss on my forehead and gives me a wink before turning to sort through her clothes for her black dress.
Chapter
Seventeen
The transition into the London Chapter seems to be going smoothly. Even though I’ve only been here for two days. I’ve met almost everyone including club whores, ol’ ladies and families.
A welcome home and welcome to the family party was arranged for the same night we got back. I was shattered, we’d spent nearly seven hours on the road, stopping once to rest and refuel our bikes, all I wanted to do was find my room and crash, but that wasn’t going to happen. There was no way they were going to let me bail out on the party, and there’s no way I would have just headed to bed. Not when everyone had made so much effort to make sure I felt welcome.
The party went on until the early hours. I finally climbed into bed around five am the next morning, but was up, ready and getting the lay of the land by one pm. I was wrong to think it would be a quiet night last night. Another night of partying started by six pm. I managed to sneak away at three am hoping to get a decent amount of sleep. I should have fucking known better. Seven am Nitro was banging on my fucking door telling me I needed to be in church by eight.
I’m exhausted and pissed off. It’s almost five past eight and besides Nitro I’m the only other person in the room. I hate beinglate, and I hate others being late even more, it show’s very little respect. I hope this isn’t a regular thing, because that’s one thing I will be fucking changing as VP.
I close my eyes and tip my head back, taking advantage of the tardiness of the others. Other than a morning grunt neither one of us has spoken. He’s clearly just as tired as I am. And I’m enjoying the silence.
A light knock on the door has me sitting up and turning my head. A small thing enters, long dark brown hair, young looking. She gives me a smile and places a cup of steaming coffee on the table in front of me before moving round to place another in front of Nitro.
I notice he watches her every move, his eyes, scanning her face then moving to do a sweep of her body. His interest surprises me, she doesn’t seem his type, she’s too quiet and I’m fairly certain someone introduced her as the sister of one of the brothers making her automatically off limits.
I clear my throat and raise an eyebrow in question. He shakes his head in warning just as the others enter the room. She waits by the door letting all of the brothers enter, each one placing a kiss on her cheek before taking their seats. They continue with their general chit chat, but the second she leaves closing the door Nitro explodes.
“Have you all lost the ability to tell the fucking time.”
Apologies are grumbled around the table but comes to a stop when he slams his gavel down. “I don’t want to hear your fucking bull shit excuses, when I say eight am, I fucking mean eight am. You’re all docked fifty quid.”
“Ah Prez man.”
“What the fuck?”
“Jesus.”
The brothers being to protest but all it does is enrage him further.
“FUCKING ENOUGH. Do I need to make it another fifty?” He blows out a heavy breath then takes a sip of his coffee. “I don’t want to hear your excuses. You know how I feel about you being late. I wouldn’t have called church so early if it wasn’t important.”
Everyone shifts in their seats, and a wave of unease ripples through the room, we wait with bated breath as Nitro eyes each of us. “Someone was seen riding around London wearing a patch with Poisoned Devils blazoned across the back of it.”
I sit up straighter, rage bubbles inside of me. We ran those fuckers out of Glasgow, destroying almost all of their members. But we’d lost a handful of them, looking all over Scotland for them without any luck. We’d heard rumours that they’d scuttled off with their tails between their legs when we took them out. We should have known better.
Nitro leans back in his chair, lighting up a smoke before throwing the packet and his lighter on the table. “Wrath, I want you to work with Ice and come up with a plan. I want a visible presence on the streets, talk to our friends and allies, put the feelers out there let people know we’re looking for these fuckers.”
“You got it.” I give him a nod then turn to give Ice a chin lift.
He’s a big fucker. Almost as big as me. Six foot one and built like a rugby player.
When I found out I was transferring down here I did my research on the men in this chapter. Ice is the enforcer; he’s only been in the role for three months. He was given his role after Jolly the current Sergeant at Arms said he needed some help when collecting. What Ice doesn’t realise is that he’s being groomed to take over the SAA seat. They want to make sure they he can handle the responsibility before Jolly finally steps down.
I don’t think half of these men realise the changes that are coming to this chapter in the next year. My move was the firstof many. The older brothers are ready to step down but want to make sure that we have the right people on the committee before they take a back seat.
I turn back to Nitro, waiting for our next instruction, his head is tipped down and his shoulders tight. He shakes his head before looking back up at all of us.
“The funeral for Mad Dog is taking place on Thursday. I know that we all want to go but now that we know at least one of the fuckers from the Poisoned Devils is down here, we need to make sure we don’t leave our clubhouse or city exposed. Some of us are going to have to stay behind. Talk to each other, decide by church Sunday morning so I can let the Glasgow boys know who to expect.”
We all nod, but nobody says anything. The mood in the room turned from anger to sombre in the blink of an eye.
“Get out you fuckers, go do whatever shit you need to do,” Nitro bites out to the room.
I push my chair out, but I’m stopped in my tracks as he calls me name, “Wrath, need you to stay brother.” I give a single nod then pull my chair back toward the table and settle back into my seat.
