‘It would be rude not to, but where is everyone?’ Elle asked, spinning her head around and looking at the crowd of people.
‘What do you mean? This place is packed.’
‘I mean, where’s the gang gone?’
Pippa pointed. ‘There’s Florrie and Felicity, they’re already in the disco.’
‘I actually think I need some air,’ said Elle, suddenly feeling hot and bothered.
‘Ha! You just want to see if Mr Dan appears at the stage door in erm … ten minutes’ time now. The clock is ticking.’ Pippa tapped her watch.
‘Don’t be ridiculous,’ Elle protested, delving into her bag and searching for her phone.
‘I bet he doesn’t give his card out to just anyone.’
‘I bet he blooming does!’
‘Yes, you may be right,’ Pippa replied, laughing.
‘Six missed calls from Irene!’ Elle exclaimed, quickly swiping the screen so she could read the text message she’d sent.
‘What does it say?’ Pippa asked, looking over her shoulder at the screen.
‘Irene, Mim and Rona have taken an early dart.’
‘Aww, that’s a shame. So, that leaves Eleni, Isla and Jenny unaccounted for.’
They both scanned the room but they couldn’t spot any of them in the mass of writhing bodies.
‘Maybe they’re in the toilet.’
‘Possibly.’
Feeling a tap on her shoulder, Elle spun round to see a panic-stricken, pale-faced Jenny standing behind her.
‘You need to come.’
Elle and Pippa both looked at each other. ‘Whatever’s the matter?’ asked Elle.
‘It’s Eleni. She’s feeling unwell. Stomach pains.’
Hurrying towards the foyer, Elle spotted Eleni leaning against the wall, clutching her stomach. She cried out. ‘The pain is getting worse.’
‘Do you think it’s the baby?’ Elle asked.
All Eleni could manage was a nod.
‘Okay, deep breaths and don’t panic. Has someone phoned an ambulance?’
‘I just want Jack.’
‘I’ve tried to ring Jack,’ added Isla. ‘But it just goes to voicemail.’
‘Pippa, phone an ambulance,’ Elle instructed then looked back towards Eleni. ‘Don’t worry, we’ll find him.’
Pippa strode over to the hatch and asked the cashier the full address of the club, relaying the information down the phone. Once the ambulance was on its way, she hung up.
‘Jenny, can you try and ring Wilson and leave him a message? And Pippa, try Aiden too.’
