"Isla," he said gently. "I can sense your unease. Speak your heart to me."

I swallowed hard, fighting back the tears threatening to break free. "Ky'rn…" I hesitated, looking down, "won't you desire someone…more like you? Someone aquatic?"

He closed the distance between us, lifting my chin gently with his cool, webbed fingers. His eyes, filled with sincerity, locked onto mine. "Isla," he whispered, his voice like the gentle lapping of waves on my soul. "Our bond transcends physicality. The moment our souls connected, I knew you were the one. It wasn't about species or where we come from, but who we are inside."

A tear slipped down my cheek, and he reached out to catch it, letting the droplet absorb into his skin. "While our external worlds might be vastly different," he continued, "our hearts beat in tandem. You question our future, and rightfully so. The unknown is daunting. But know this. No matter where we end up or what challenges lie ahead, my commitment to you remains unwavering."

The warmth of his words wrapped around me, and I pressed myself into his chest, letting his strong arms encircle me. The steady rhythm of his heartbeat soothed my fraying nerves.

"I'm scared," I admitted, my voice muffled against his torso.

"And that's okay," he murmured into my hair, pressing a soft kiss on my head. "We'll face the future together, Isla. Whatever comes our way, I'll be right by your side."

"Promise?" I whispered, needing assurance.

"Always," he murmured against my forehead, sealing the promise with a gentle kiss. "Love is universal, Isla. It transcends boundaries, cultures, and species. We have already proven that. As for the rest, we'll figure it out. Together."

As I took a moment, letting his words sink in, the doubts and fears momentarily drifted away.

For the first time in a long while, I felt a surge of hope and the comforting embrace of love. With Ky'rn by my side, the future, though uncertain, didn't seem so daunting after all.

CHAPTERTHIRTY-THREE

KY’RN

The warmth of her body nestled against mine, every breath she took seemed to align with the rhythm of my twin hearts. My relief was palpable as I sensed the turmoil in her mind settle, replaced by a cautious hope.

Every inhale of mine took in the scent of her hair, a mix of ocean salt and fresh blossoms. It was intoxicating and grounding all at once.

The Stars knew how much I cherished this fragile, fierce human.

It stung that she harbored doubts about our future, but given what she'd been through, I couldn't fault her. My mark on her was not just a physical bond but an emotional one; a commitment I had made to her.

"I don't care about the differences in our species." I murmured, my voice husky. "We'll navigate these waters together. As long as you're with me, Isla, I have faith that the Stars will guide us."

The warmth of her breath tickled my chest as she chuckled softly. "You really care about me, don’t you?"

I tilted her chin up, ensuring her eyes met mine. "When it comes to you? Always."

Her uncertainty mirrored my own, and in some strange way, it brought us even closer. We were two souls from vastly different worlds, entwined by fate and united in love. The mark on her neck, a symbol of our unbreakable bond, pulsed gently, reminding me of the promise I'd made. My vow.

She leaned back, looking up at me, her eyes sparkling like the luminescent corals of the deep as she took my hand, lacing our fingers together. "I think you’re right. We need a fresh start, away from all the chaos."

I nodded. "Then let's explore Atlantis," I murmured, caressing her face. "We have the entire city to explore. I'm not certain when we'll return to Earth, if ever. And honestly, I want to show you the wonders of my world, and what life will be like on X’thyrl."

She smiled, albeit hesitantly. "Considering the current disagreements between Earth's governments and the IPA, it's best if we distance ourselves. Besides," she sighed. "We can return, perhaps, when things settle down, but for now, I am glad we’re leaving in the morning. I want to embrace this new chapter, away from Earth's conflicts, away from the shadows of my past."

Her words, though filled with hope, carried the weight of past burdens. I caressed her cheek, the cool touch of my skin making her shiver.

She looked thoughtful for a moment, biting her lower lip, a gesture I found incredibly endearing. A hint of mischief lit her eyes. "How exactly do we traverse the depths of Atlantis…together?"

A chuckle escaped my lips. "My dear Isla, leave that to me. The wonders of Atlantis await, and I promise you, I won’t leave your side.”

Excitement flashed in her eyes, chasing away the shadows of doubt. "Lead the way,Commander. Show me your world."

I pulled her close, relishing the laughter that bubbled from her lips. "Then hold on tight, my love. Atlantis awaits us."

“Tell me what I need to do.”
