“Clean or dirty?” Seth asked. I could see he was becoming more confused than he already was.

“Is it possible for socks to be clean and carry their scents?” She lifted her head from her blanket and glanced at Seth for answers. “I don’t want any dirty socks in my nest. I don’t know what you guys do in your free time.”

“We mostly stay on the vessel,” I explained. “And there isn’t anything out of the ordinary that we can do while we are in transit.”

“So are you saying that it isn't possible to have socks that carry your scents but not dirty up my nest?”

“Unfortunately, I would have to say that it’s impossible.”

She pouted as tears started to form from around the edges of her eyes.

“Why do you need socks?” I rushed to her side but didn’t touch her nest out of respect. She may have invited Seth and me to her room, but we weren’t permitted to do as we pleased. “Would another piece of clothing work?”

“What about shirts?” Seth asked, feeling the edge of his. “I know Stella has a sewing machine. We could transform a shirt from each crew member into some sort of pillow easily.”

“Shirt pillows,” Elara mumbled as she raised her head and wiped the tears from her eyes. “That would be perfect!”

Elara jumped up and rushed to Seth as she gave him a huge hug.

“You are a genius!”

I couldn’t help the sting of jealousy that rushed through me. Even though she had been thankful this whole time, I wanted to be the one that she hugged. Seeing how her very presence affected Seth, as he swelled up with pride, was something that I wanted.

Turning away from the display, I shook my head as I tried to remind myself it hadn’t even been a day since she joined. She had just received her claiming mark and hadn’t mentioned how she was ready to collect her pack. It was known that omega’s often done it before their heat, or at least recruit willing betas to help ride their heat with them and their alpha. If the beta could please the omega and respect their alpha, then the beta would be offered a position within the omega’s pack.

I needed to settle down.

She had all the time in the universe to notice me, and if I were destined to remain her clan member, then I would go without complaint.
