Only time would tell.
We stopped beside a sleek merchant vessel, clearly one of the newer models within the hanger. It was a clear display of not only wealth—but power. No one would dare to take on Coco Pharma’s ship with the amount of weaponry it was sporting.
I wondered if it was needed—and how often they came across pirates on their delivery.
“This is it,” Xavier announced. “Ain’t she a beauty?”
“She is one of the best-looking ships in here,” I replied, squeezing my alpha’s hand. “I guess you have to fly the best if you are going to deliver the best.”
“Damn straight,” Xavier agreed, nodding in my direction. “You can’t show up in something run down, or your clients will think you are selling shady shit. People love to sell counterfeits and flip them for fast credits these days.”
“I wouldn’t know.” I let out a small chuckle, instantly feeling beyond my element. “We aren’t told much about what is happening outside of the station. Only whenever it is important.”
“You have nothing to worry about, Elara.” Quinn shot a glare at Xavier and then my alpha. “Just focus on getting through your heat and gathering a pack. After that, your clan will deal with politics.”
“I’m not some trophy, Quinn,” I countered. “You know I want to learn about what my clan does and to help, even if it’s office work. I don’t have to go in public if I work behind a desk within the confines of my clan’s home.”
“No, but you have a long way to go before you get there. You need to focus on the tasks at hand and create a strong bond before determining what you want to do in the future. Stars, you may decide not to have any kids once your birth control runs out.”
“We have time,” my alpha soothed as his purr rolled from his chest. “We have to take it one step at a time. Of course, I would love to give you something to do within the crew once we ride out of your heat, but first, I believe it’s best to wait until then.”
“I understand,” I muttered, hating the feeling that somehow, I was acting like a spoiled child being talked to by their parents. “I just want to be useful… More than just an omega needing to keep their alpha sane.”
“You will be,” he urged. “It will just take some time. This is new for all of us.”
“You’re right.” I sighed and let go of his hand as he freely gave it to me without any resistance. I walked up to Quinn and hugged her as she wrapped her arms around me. “I’m going to miss you.”
“I will only be an intercall away,” Quin soothed, rubbing circles on my back. “Go spend time with your clan. I will gather your things and make sure they are here before you can miss them.” She pulled away and peered over my shoulder to my alpha, who I could scent was standing close behind me. “I will page your ship in the morning to check up on my omega. Make sure you don’t miss my call.”
“I will make sure my crew knows.”
She nodded. “Then let’s not delay this any longer than we have, Elara. I can scent you from here and refuse to be the reason you aren’t being tended to.”
“I love you, Quinn.”
She palmed my cheek and tilted her head. I could see how she, too, was refusing to cry. “I love you too, Elara.”
“Thanks for everything you have done.”
“It was my pleasure.”
